Working towards a new game

Post by 3dfrog »

Hello folks, remember me :)

I am working towards a new scifi game of frogs in space. Here is the beginning of my first character. Hope you like him :)

Very froggy!

I do hope you supply them pressure suits when they go space walking.

Thanks Folks!

I tested how he looks in Unity Engine, he looks good, but I don't think I can figure out the scripting to make a whole game. I'll see if any coders are interested.

Is it another shooter game or more an adventure type thing?
The guy who's developing the DAGE engine is screaming out for some people to do a game with his engine, but it is more focused on point and click adventures like the recent Sam and Max, MI and the other things Telltale are doing.
http://www.dageport.com/"
He uses SMD for characters, if you have Gamespace they export from that very well, and 3DS for rooms and props.
The downer at the moment it has a very basic level editor so most of the work is via scripting.
I'm toying on doing a game with it.. then again I'm waiting to see how the new Awakening turns out, its starting to get a nice eco system
I guess one advantage with going with DAGE would be more hands on support, but one the other hand he could just say "sod it" and bail on the project.

The frog looks great, love the animation :worship:

Thanks for the recommendation on Dage Nigec. I think I am gonna go with Unity now that I have a couple of Coders willing to help out. Dage looks cool, but I want the option of expanding to other platforms when the game is complete, This may be my big one, who knows. I think the game would be killer on an android phone. Got lots of work and planning to do before I get there though ;)

I would say unity is the way to go since I have been studying it for a few months now off and on. It is very user friendly and doesn't require you to be a coding guru. Also it will take most any standard 3D format. Makes it very nice for a team who use different programs.

Yes, Unity looks pretty neat! I am currently going through the 3D Platformer Tutorial now, then will probably try the car tutorial. Then I'll see what I can do with it. I have exported an animated model in .dae format with a simple animation which seemed to work fine.
We should start a thread in the Gaming topic for us Unity folks! :)

that is a great idea, Jeff... will help those of us less 'efficient' in learning new tools to get some hope and ideas for inspiration to try our own ones ;)
