Thea Public beta about to go live!
In the next few hours Thea will be released for public beta testing.
The beta is a fully functioning app limit only 800 x 600 and a watermark, with various plugin options, ie Sketchup 6/7 (you can use the free SU ), blender 2.5, max, Rhino, and a few others later on
It also works well standalone, it'll import TS obj and 3DS no problem and also been tested with Modo, Carrara, Vue, Daz, the list goes on lol
Anyway, I'm not doing a saleman pitch, just take a look!
A lot of people just think its going to be Kerkythea on steroids, but its built from the the ground up and very little in common with KT

Re: Thea Public beta about to go live!
I´ve got some render times.... i just tested it with photon mapping in Kerkythea and Vue and Thea.
All three with 2 omnilight and physical sky just about same quality setting.
i also ran lightwork inside Truespace and Vray inside Truespace. The test scene I used was the cathedral from
the Truesapce library. Here are some results and also some render times.
Lightwork which is not global illumination was the fastest with 5,8 seconds.
Vray with about the same settings as the others was about 60 seconds fast. Thea took 1min 8 seconds. Kerkythea took
6min 56 seconds. Vue 8 Inf. took 2min 8 seconds on final and global illumination.
Much more impressive was that when I made the sphere that surrounds the cathedral an illuminated material the render time for kerkythea climbed to
1 hour and 40minutes. Thea took for exactly the same scene with illuminated material only 5 min 44 seconds.
So in the first case Thea from the same house was 5x faster then Kerkythea from the same house.
in the other case it was more then 18 times !!!
For you to test the same setup just encapsulate as 3d the scene in Workspace side ... move to modelside.... select that now single object and export it as an
obj. All you have to do now is import it into Thea and ad the lights and set up the camera
All the above render times are on a qaudcore with 2400 and 3 megs Render size was 600 x800 ...

Re: Thea Public beta about to go live!
Thanks for the tests
There's a really good test you can do when comparing Vray to Thea, try something like this below and see how much depth you get, its a simple box with 2 morrors and light coming through either side, I used one of the light tent hdri's..
the picture is unbias btw with bias on default you don't get infinitive, set trace depth to 25 and you will

Re: Thea Public beta about to go live!
We did a similar test with a bathroom scene,, suprisingly Maxwell didn't do so well and could only do 2 repeats, Carrara I only managed 1 repeat (i think)
Actually Dribble did quite well with the cars but I couldn't get a perfect mirror
I like the first Vue render with the temple

Re: Thea Public beta about to go live!
The temple is a scene from the Truespace library something that everyone here has with the installation
so that you can test speeds and everyone can look at it themselves.
I will get Thea in 2 weeks I am very stunned by the speed and the realy good thing is that it can open
and use Kerky textures and scenes....Its much faster then Kerky !
Thats 4 years in development.

Network rendering makes a big difference too, its only with unbias at the moment.
Good to hear your considering buying, I don't think you can go wrong at the current price
I like the Blender plugin, I did a few animated renders with that and very cleanly done, it looks like its part of Blender
