Hi
According to the manual so does the UV mapping editor export bitmaps in this fashion:
"Export Bitmap will save the current contents of the editor window (both texture and mesh) into a
bitmap file. A Save dialog will appear where you can choose the file name. The size of the exported
bitmap will match the texture selected in the editor; if there is no texture, it will match the size of
the editor window".
I have a texture that is clearly 2048x1024 in size applied to the model. When I export from the UV mapping editor I get a 1024x512 sized image file. Changing the size of the UV mapping editor doesn't alter the size of the export file.
If I change the file to another file I have, that is also 2048x1024 in size - then I get 1024x1024 as export from UV mapping....
I have tried this in both TS 6.6 and Classic mode in 7.6. I have tried different file format for the texture file (PNG, TGA and BMP) as well as export file (PNG, TGA and BMP). I get the same strange result as outlined above no matter what.
Is this some kind of bug or do I do something wrong?

I see the same thing 2048x1024 image exports uv size as 1024x512. I think the manual might be wrong about the match the size of the editor window when there is no texture. If you right click the uv editor there is an option for default res. and it seems to use that and not the size of the window. It doesn't help with the "preexisting texture" uv export.

Thank you for your reply clintonman.clintonman wrote:I see the same thing 2048x1024 image exports uv size as 1024x512. However, there is two problem with the suggeted approach.
First, there is no default res box in Ts 6.6, only in TS 7.6
If I set the box in TS 7.6 to 2048, this don't help for me - I still get a 1024x512 UV export.. so I don't really get what the default resolution does, it doesn't seam to do anything in my case.

That's what I meant when I said it doesn't help, since it only works when no texture is applied and it only makes a square shaped export not rectangular like in your case. I think if you use ts76 and go to workspace you can export the uv map at the texture size.

Try this:
Open your model in tS76 and change the display options
TS6 Files > display options
set "Txt Res for Workspace" to 2048x2048
go to workspace and open the uv editor
Preferences for uv editor Export set for original size then export the texture
This works for me. The strange part is you have to set the workspace texture resolution from modelside. That sets the maximum texture size that can export.

That sounds about right. The display options are what set the texture output default for all Caligari modeling software all seem to be squared by design. I'm not really sure how things like this are handled by the 7.x workspace side UV editor? Are there options in the 7.6 UV editor controls? UV editors in general are truly strange beasts that seem to defy common logic. I've found that using the other features of the material editor easier to work with then trying to work with bitmap type textures.clintonman wrote:Try this:

Re: UV editor - bug or do I do something wrong?
Thanks for all suggestions.
In the end, I simply used the 1024x512 map I could export and interpolated it up to 2048x1024.
Not an ideal solution but it works...

yes theres a tab in WS uv editor prefs for export, you can choose for original or custom size, if no texture is applied then seems can do a custom size ok , not sure about when a pre-existing texture is applied to the mesh though.
