U3DAC July 2013 - Las Vegas/Fun Town
I have started on concept, drawn something out, got some colour ideas and feel, needs more working on, but that's 2D! So going to start modeling, and so far I have A LOT to do! I really want to do a good job this time around.

Re: U3DAC July 2013 - Las Vegas/Fun Town
I gotta go now, home, and... life.
But here is what I have for now. My plan is to render it in Redshift, a new renderengine for the Autodesk suite, a full GPU biased render engine. I've got access to the alpha, and so far it's a killer. For now it only runs on CUDA, but it works like a charm. I will see what I can do with it......

Yes GPU rendering is very nice, I've only got a Quadro 600 so what I can do is a bit limited on 1GB .. cars render as quickly as saying.. "watch this car render" lol

Yeah! Really looking forward to playing with Redshift. Can't wait, and being Biased, with final gathering, GI and photons, I am sure I will have fun.
I haven't had much breakthrough with the rendering, just mostly modeling, but I found a cool way to make some false colour bleeding and bouncing with the DX renderer. Just... (in Bloom settings) amp up the glow threshold to 1.000, highest smoothness, medium high scene settings, 2 downsamples, and about 1 bloom intensity. You get this .... false colour bleed, which in realtime is quite pretty.

Hehe yes indeed Finis!

I am about to retire for tonight, but I need some lamp posts before I sleep and worry how I'm going to UV everything, and texture......
But I finally finished the fire-hydrant, had fun making those... and I don't know anything about Las Vegas, but I assume they have these kinds of fire-hydrants?
Things I have yet to model.. an old car chasis, a lady, and then get into Softimage for some cloth/hair and all the textures ready for Redshift.
Gulp... I should finish up the modeling really soon!

I am nearly ready to export as *.X files to Softimage. I still have yet to model two complicated things, one being the main feature of the image and a chunk of ruins and the like.
I don't know if I will make it! We will see.........

Re: U3DAC July 2013 - Las Vegas/Fun Town
I got a last minute job for a commercial center here, a simulation for Christmas decoration, a presentation for a decoration company that will probably land the contract if I do a good animation (a minute long, camera fly through).. I am thinking how to do it, and so I started modeling in TS and figured, maybe I just will render it in TS.. but I will see. I may use it for the scene, maybe yes, maybe no. Not sure. I just have to get this done. I do want to try out Redshift though! I wonder how I will do Christmas lights everywhere.
If you haven't noticed, yes, that is a Google Maps texture.

On a side note... With all the heavy news of operations and people dying.... well I hope everyone is ok.

Glad you got work doing 3D! Are you still working on Senor de las Flores?
The challenge entry doesn't have to be about Las Vegas. It can be any fun town. This place is good for an entry. With James out it looks like you vs. Pugman 1.

Here is some xmas lights for a tree, if you like. Select the Activate check box.
They are basicaly torus(s) vertices/points, with Lines and Opacity turned off.

Re: U3DAC July 2013 - Las Vegas/Fun Town
Thanks! I will take a look now! Cool! Crazy script stuff, didn't know you could do that, man, that would be handy, though.. i don't understand the scripts and nodes so well..... how does it work?
I have pretty much finished the modelling. Now I am working on the lighting. I am finding that I need a very large amount of lights, so this scene won't be using my AO light rig, unless I work on different passess somehow, but I think that will prove difficult considering TS workspace side doesn't render images with alpha channels. I will have to use masks. As for the ammount of elements, i will make new scenes with the compositing shaders seperately, instead of programming my shader switcher. Too many shaders....

I had a meeting with the clients today, convincing them of the animation, the light setup, the sales pitch for their client, the ammount it would cost, etc; the justification of the all the setup, the lights, discussed things. So far I have a good show on.. so that will be good.
It's nice having a realtime viewport, though the 1 gig ati card at work couldn't hack it, so I took it to my 2 gig ati card here, and it runs a lot smoother, but still..... I wish I had directX11!
Here are some light ideas.

More here
I plan to use the D3D display with large vertice point for the Christmas lights. I will toggle the show/hide in an animation clip and loop it. I will trigger the lights also with a clip. I will probably do the christmas lights in a another pass. I will do another Zdepth pass for some effects (as the vertice sizes don't scale with perspective at all)
I will see how that goes... it will probably be a compositing miracle..
So. coming on, lets see if I can finish in the next couple of days.

ARRRRGH! I'm rendering the final composite of the sequence, but from my home computer, has the GPU but not the CPU! It's taking forever! As I get some good screen shots, that will be my entry.
I hope I make it on time!

Re: U3DAC July 2013 - Las Vegas/Fun Town
Here is the final animation sequence, finished not 3 days after the deadline for the competition, but oh well. The clients wanted more to add (since they already got more than they bargained for) but I couldn't do that. It was nice to play with trueSpace, a great tool for realtime previews, and the controls simple.
I think I will have to get into Maya more just for it's viewport 2.o!

Very cool animation with excellent - smooth camera work.
I wanted to put tinsel on my head and dance along, but couldn't find my head.

Re: U3DAC July 2013 - Las Vegas/Fun Town
Corruption is big here in Colombia, so this deal with the client kinda went weird. They payed half the product up front for the production, but upon completion they owed us the other half. If the presentation landed them the contract, the deal would have to double. Well they got a second meet with their clients for the commercial center, all good. But they wouldn't pay the second half of the first deal (the one pre-sale)... so in order to concrete the sale or future client (the commercial center) we resorted to doing a little more extra work, which would guarantee the second half of the first deal.
But it was, to me, a bit rude to have a client withhold cash from a preset deal for some extra bonus work.... Oh well. I will have to wise up my business game, or make sure my "boss" knows what he is doing a bit better.

Cool images. Makes me wish it was a video game so I could explore it.
Once they refused to pay as they had agreed there was no reason to believe they would ever pay anything more and so no reason to do any more work. Was there a written contract with the client? If so then sue them for the money owed and press criminal charges for breach of contract.
