Very Very cool Mark!

Now if we can just animate the 'portal' part, like a wave pool, that will really rock!

:bananacheers: Here you go my friend!

Grab the freeware "Apophysis" fractal program at the following page:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/apophysis/files/

Important Note: There are several "Versions" of Apophysis, with the best by far being the "3D Hack" version which I use. So on the page above, be sure and grab the install version from that page named: "Apophysis208_3Dhack.exe"

Don't let the name "Hack" scare you off, it is a safe program with no malware or spyware or adware or virus in it at all. It was just called "hack" because the development in that direction (using the program for a more "3D" output appearance) had ceased with some of the key developers and continued with other key developers, they branched off, and many referred to it as a "hack" of the original development direction and the name stuck. lol. The program is safe though and very very cool to work with!

That will get you started... be careful though, lol, Apophysis is as addictive as any drug on earth! :D

Update on when these will start appearing in this thread as working downloads.

I have been swamped with re-doing many older online scenes and creating new ones for use in the OurSpaces for us all, so the Apo Portal Teleporters are moved ahead a few days on availability here but will arrive throughout the coming week here.

Also I need to update the panel to provide proper credit to Dele (Matthew Collins) who did most of the truly pioneering scripting for teleporters on his own and without whom none of us would have working versions. All of mine are in fact merely hacked versions of his, I just added new geometry and in some cases additional effects is all. Wish Matthew was still with us, he is sorely missed in our shared space / OurSpace development these days.

Introducing "ApoGate1"

Post by 3dvisuals dude »

Here is ApoGate1, the first of many pre-tested and functioning Ultra-Elegant Avatar Teleporters for use in OurSpace scenes online.

This one is so beautiful up close you have to see it to believe it! :D

The Zipped RsObj file follows the image, and remember you can resave that as an RsRcd format to reduce filesize if you wish for online usage.

As Always, click the image below once or twice for the fullsize detailed version.

Enjoy!

Loved the piccy of the ApoGate 1; tried to download to see how it works and once again, no joy at all with the download. Barely got 60kb down before it closed on me. Must be something to do with this ts website as I have never had this kind of problem before anywhere else. Hope it can be fixed.

I did manage to fix Trueplay by modifying my own TPlay default page with the wire bug fix, so I don't need that download from TrueBlue now, but the teleporter would have been nice. Here's hoping!!!

I installed this on FrooServe port 1109.
Looks really cool! Especially in FPN; as you get closer, the image warps a bit.
The teleporter works as well; you jump to a location when you enter the portal.

Hi Morion. Not sure why the download is not working for you.
Maybe these could be hosted on another server, perhaps?

that image "warping" is intentional, hehehe... it is actually a reflectance effect designed (by Noko via his DX9 Glass Shader) to provide the illusion in this case that the fractal flame is floating in space just beyond the event horizon of a wormhole, and as you approach the gate from various angles it does indeed appear to be a 3D floating phenomenon just beyond the gate's field. :D

Also of course, the teleporters I use utilize the scripting and related interface that Matthew Collins devised for us when we all collaborated on the methodology to devise avatar teleportation back in 2007, and as such they each have a one-click method to easily re-set the teleportation location (the destination the avatars wind up at in 3d space) as well.

I am also glad you placed a version online at your Frooserver, because now that answers your other question.... since you did that yes, it already is hosted at another server for download... yours! :D

Morion can simply go inside trueSpace7.6x, log in to Frooserve, and he will be in the scene with the new Apogate1. Once he has fully loaded the scene
and no longer sees and lag indications of the scene still caching to his computer (indicated in you login panel right after your name by a "dw" followed by a number which decreases to zero and vanishes) then he can simply right-click in his trueSpace Scene Library on any empty space there and select "insert as scene" to download the scene to his hard drive, saved to his Library Scene Folder. From there, offline, he can open it and resave the gate as an object in his Object Libraries.

Thanks Froo, that solved that issue nicely! Hehehehe!! :D

See the message just above this post for your solution! :D

By the way, after reading your message I downloaded the file here myself, unzipped it fine. Whatever the issue is on your end or in the realworld internet route path between your computer and this forum, it isn't effecting everone, just you.

I suggest looking in your system to see if there is a conflict between two different programs trying to claim file association with the "zip" format, many unarchiving programs are notorious for auto-associating every filetype they can handle on install, often without even asking you or notifying you on install. If that is the case, uninstall every archiver you have and reinstall one at a time, downloading files (not the gate here but some smaller bandwidth file please) between each install until you pinpoint the offending archiver install.

Thank you for the suggestions. What is the frooserve address and port, and do I need a special password ?? My download problem appears to be that only a small part of the zip file is actually sent before the download link closes, so the file is not complete and cannot be unzipped. I might phone our service provider to see if other New Zealanders are having problems. They will probably try to sell me something I don't need!
Will check out frooserve first. Thanks everyone :D

Excellent! :bananaguitar:

By the way... there is a video downloadable at the Caligari Forum in the first post of the following thread:

http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/s ... php?t=3905

The video explains how you can rename the script object in the panel successfully (otherwise it will break the functionality of the teleporters when you rename them) and the video also explains how to set the destination for the teleportation also. The video was created by Dele (Matthew Collins) who put together that original script and panel after several days of intense collaboration between Froo(tee) / Jason, Dele, Norm Fortier, myself, and the Caligari Developers which led to the successful methodology needed to teleport avatars back in 2007.

I will be adding new "ApoPortals" and "ApoGates" to this thread here daily so stay tuned in here and Enjoy! :D

hey, you're welcome Morion!
And welcome to OurSpace! :D

Hm. a trueSpace object, repository, in 3D. Possible? Yeah!
That would be pretty cool. Each room / space contains similar objects:
Chairs, lamps, aliens, etc.
(there goes that 500 GB drive eh? ); each room is a 'Library' so to speak.
You go there, and save what you want. But man that'd be a lotta work!
But fun to experiment with!

BTW I need to enable cacheing for each space. That way, when users enter
the scene, they won't re-download everything; only those things that are new/changed
since their last visit. The items are downloaded to their computer on first visit, and updates.

Oh meant to also say, trueblue's spaces are ultra-wicked cool! Check them out!

Neat idea at first till you stop and think of how many spaces I could fill let alone all of us, lol. Just in skydomes I could fill up 40 spaces, then there are terrains. structures.... I think we would need a few dozen terrabytes. :D

Checked them out today in fact before I popped over to FrooSpace and ran into Paul and Leon and you there. trueBlue's scenes are great and ripe with further potential. I really would like to see us connect the two servers like you had Stan's connected once to FrooServe, if they are both up a lot you may as well have back and forth linkbar buttons. I plan to with you guys when I have my server(s) up for sure. :D

Yes AMAZING designs! I can animate those or at least I think so. Best would be a trigger so animation only occurs when someone is close to the portal. Although they probably all could be animating at once but timers seems to tie up the server a little when running.

Thanks trueBlue! the whole worldwide "interconnectedness" of our own Community servers is something I have genuinely looked forward to since February 2007 when I first started getting involved with the Community at the Caligari Forums. I have faith that this one step will lead to a quantum growth in our Community soon for many reasons. It really does "put us on the map" so to speak, I believe it will make us far more visible and far more appealing as a Community to entirely new potential Community Members worldwide. :D

Hey Froo...

That reminds me of something I've been meaning to ask.....

Is there a maximum number of portals limit to what one computer can make available online through trueServe?

I know that the Cali servers had 14 going at one point but not all were widely known, and even at that point Norm and Paul would occasionally add more for events or storage.

Thanks Noko! :D

I have been pouring over the animation sequence scripting in the Garage at the Cali Forum and while I have a rough idea how that stuff works I am definitely a fish out of water doing animations, lol, just never was my strong suit!

I sure have a kazillion ideas though on cool animations that I would like to see used with portals and gates! Basically if I have one working version of an animated texture which is scripted to appear on a double sided plane and which is animated via a paused activity loop and a trigger versus a timer, then I would have the fundamental basis of a prototype I could hack into a few hundred variations till the cows come home! hahaha!!

I agree for sure, animated effects are something we sure need in many of our OurSpace projects! Feel free to dive right in with us, we could use the company! :D

Very cool idea there Steinie!

That brings to mind that old Star Trek episode where there were doors in a stone room and the image beyond (or on) each would transition in a cycle, representing various epochs and seasons at that particular destination.

We could script something like that with alternating destinations related to each displayed sequential portal screencap image I think.

Is that what you meant ?

but I didnt forget to make everyone a new ApoPortal even so....

here is ApoGate3

As always the zipped RsObj file follows the image, and click the image once or twice to get a larger detailed view.

This is a large file, needs to be resaved as an RsRcd for shared space use but will be fine then sizewise.

This one is deceptively pretty... the picture does it no justice... the FX Field is transparent but the Alien text GLISTENS... it is really very cool ! Also, of course, you can type your own text in the script for a gate name on both sides! 8-)

Enjoy! :D

Hi 3dv. You can specify the range of ports.
Probably 2^14 or 2^16: 32768 or 65,536 is the max.

Something like that. I read it in the manual somewhere.

Wow.....

that is one hell of a lot of portals we can each set up on our servers assuming we have the hard drive space to handle them all! Awesome!!!!!! :bananacheers:

Well it's that time again, lol !

Here's ApoGate4

This is an unusual teleporter too....

This one is created to be a Statue Pedestal for whatever Statue you would like to place on top of it, it is rectangular so a reclining statue would look best.

The textures of course can be replaced with your own easily enough in the link editor if you like.

As always the zipped rsObj file follows the realtime workspace screencaps below and click them once or twice to see the larger detailed versions.

Enjoy folks!

I couldn't open zip file 3dvis. Win7 says it is invalid so does 7zip. File size was 90kb, took three times before I got the full file. Hmmm seems like forums have a problem with zip file downloads.

Very cool! :bananaguitar:

You have solved a problem for me for Ezekiel project which will be rather cool. The ability to teleport does lead into alot of possibilities.

I will see what animated effects I can give you to do your magic. A few torches on the sides of the gates that get larger as you approach just poped into my mind.

Hi noko - I too am still having ongoing problems downloading zip files from this site. Only tiny (60kb) files will download successfully. Interesting that I am not the only one. I live in New Zealand. Are you also outside the USA?
I do not usually have these problems, and can download fine from the old Caligari forum site. :(

Introducing "Apo-Gate5" !!

Post by 3dvisuals dude »

Well it's that time again, lol !

Here's ApoGate5

This is a sweet teleporter too ! :D

This one is was a labor of love, took me hours to make this one work right, lol.

Aside from the ultra cool copper edged glass doors that open as your avatar approaches them, when an avatar is inside and the doors shut behind them POOF! they vanish as they are teleported, and that is visible to others outside the pyramid ! Interesting effect!

I also added two Statue Pedestals for whatever Statues you would like to place on each side of the doors, they are rectangular so reclining statues would look best.

Oh and yes... this scene is triangulated, lol! :D

As always the zipped file (an RsRcd scene in this case) follows the realtime workspace screencaps below and click them once or twice to see the larger detailed versions.

Enjoy folks!

remember, if an object or scene is too large just start the Record tool in Workspace, and stop it as soon as it lets you, then save the file in the RsRcd format, which reduces it's size by 1/2 to 2/3rds with no ill effects.

oh ok sure

load your scene to be recorded into truespace

start the record tool

hover your mouse over the stop icon on the record tool
when you see you can click stop, click it

now go to save your scene or export it, and when you do, you will now have the option of saving / exporting in the RsRcd recording format, and that is what you should select from the save/insert/export dropdown menu as the format you desire to use.

simple : )

Sorry for the delay in response. Actually I live in Florida so it appears the problem is with forums. Sometimes files load ok, other times it takes many attempts to get it loaded.
