We always learn with what we do even when we make mistakes.
-The planet don't look 3d. Maybe with an atmosphere.
-It would be better to have more space at left and right of the image (with another format as 16:9). the render would have a deeper appearence.
-the nebula on the background is too clear.
Now tear it apart so I can learn something from this..
I don't want to offend you, but I thought of a german word, we use the word "kitschig" * .
And this is what I thought about the colours of your ships.
They look like toys.
* wikipedia:
"Kitsch is a German term that has been used to categorize art that is considered an inferior copy of an existing style. The term is also used more loosely in referring to any art that is pretentious or in bad taste, and also commercially produced items that are considered trite or crass."

"kitschig" ... that is good here. It is what gives the ships their 1950's toy look.
Otherwise: Yeah, what Marcel said.

The sun seems to be on the right side upwards, but the shadows
of your shipyards don't show that light.
Did you really use an infinite (sun) light?
The dark side of the planet should be much darker.
(the light side too) Or is the planet luminous?
I think with TS came an earth texture. Try that and
give it a cloud texture around.
You need much finer textures.
The ship in the middle shows steps of the red color.
I would use finer lines for the red color.
As I saw in an other of your pictures, I think you
used to much vertices for your ship bodies. This
can slow down your PC.
As I remember the startrek movies, there were some
spotlights in the shipyards. maybe it could help to
make the objects bigger for the eyes.
I think there is something wrong with the point of
view. Maybe it is what marcel said. Try it.
Then it would be better to put the shipyards
in different distances to the watcher.
You must imagine how big the ships are, you
could not get them with a standard lens.
To show your POV, you would be very far away
and you would use a telephoto lens. But then,
every object would look squeezed.
I think it is better to use a wide angle lens.
The nebula is not only too clear, it is too bright.
You want to show the ships and not the background!

It would seem to me that the structures should be attached to one another to facilitate moving 'shipworkers' between them, and also to avoid collisions. People in space stations get very nervous about other large objects getting too close to them in orbit.
Shouldn't there be more than just a 'cage' for an operation like that? Where do the workers reside? Where is the spare parts/ raw materials storage?

I liked the red stripes. That's because they gave the ships the "toy" look. Of course you might not want the toy look and in that case no stripes, or other color patterns, would be better.

The structure of your latest image looks like a background image for something else. May I suggest that you move your camera closer to your ships and add some detail to the foreground, perhaps one of the shuttlecraft.
I thought the stripes on the starships were fine but the stripes on the shuttlecraft were a few too many. The shuttlecraft looked more like a gingerbread cookie. The stripes on the starships made me think of the paint jobs on 1930's era racing planes.
Good stuff, keep at it.

Do you see that the shipyards are cut on the left and right side of the picture?
This gives the feeling of 'big' (to big to fit the picture)!
Now your planet is bigger, that is much better, and the planets texture is better too.

ranger: dont take it bad, but you should give the trek thingks up :) there is too much of it and honestly I dont think it looks better than the first final pics of it. It get worse actually. You should give your time and energy to something else or new ;)
(not to be so negative - i like UtopiaPlanitiaFleetYards.jpg from the new ones)

If the whole world is nothing but Trek and you want to do Trek fine. Do what you are inspired to do.
I think you need to divide your work into stages more. You seem to try to make pictures all at once. Sure, you design it first or have an idea about what it should be like but I mean you're handling all the details at once. Like modeling and doing the background and doing the lighting.
You've got the modeling on this one. The ships look good. Texturing is the task now. Then lighting. Then setting including background. Then finalize details and fine tuning. Do the pictures in parts.
