Has anyone been harassed for advocating Truespace?
I post on another forum heavily used by Studio Max users, and I've caught a lot of flack cutting Truespace down as a viable 3D model software. You'd think that I was trying to sell them Truespace or something. We all know that TS is now a free software download, but I just don't get all of the hatred expressed to wards Truespace on that forum. Background on the other forum is this: It's a video game modding forum for Battlezone II Combat Commander. It's a rather old game with few modeling tools available anymore. Truespace's, main advantage is it's ease of use for average modeling hobbyists and the TS DirectX model exporter. I've even been harassed for posting TS based modeling tutorials. Some people there actually used to use Truespace, but now it's actually taboo for some unknown reason to even mention Truespace anymore. I've already told the forums management that if I'm not free to post articles about using Truespace he might as well delete my user account; I go by the nick Col Klink on that forum Here's a link to that forum. You should read some of the crap posted about against using Truespace. I'm pretty disgusted with that forum now a days, and if it weren't for liking BZII so much I'd just tell them all to take a flying leap before I stop posting articles about model making with Truespace.

Re: Has anyone been harassed for advocating Truespace?
Hmm, I used to get a lot of comments myself that I should learn to use "a proper" modeling software rather than tS, this was on the ModDB community. http://www.moddb.com/members/lord-skeybar
Other than that, I haven't heard about the "taboo". Strange, you'd think many people would appreciate trueSpace for being the easiest modeling software out there.

Well sounds kind of childish. I suppose these 3dsmax users consider themselves 'better' just because they
'have' a high end package. I say 'have' because, at least some of those copies are pirated. I"ve seen that
before. I suppose you'd get the same if you posted about blender.

Re: Has anyone been harassed for advocating Truespace?
Oddly, the criticism mostly comes from a few select posters. I love pimping Truespace because I love it so much. I know some pirating of MAX has been done in the past when someone over there offered to give me a copy of it. What really bothers me is when I want to post BZII related Truespace modeling articles and tutorials. I always catch hell from the same silly group of people who seem to hate TS as a MAX as a viable modeling software. I think they scared off one new forum member who ask how to make a model for BZII. I started to get flamed for advocating Truespace. Nobody, ever heard from the new guy after the flames took over the posted topic. It was pretty sad though, but the good news is that I still post TS stuff anyways. Serve's them right for using such childish intimidation tactics on a Truespace lover.

[edit] Sorry, I wasn't being fair to this forum, which is usually quite civil to users of various apps.
I wouldn't sweat this too much, I think you may find that a few people appreciate your efforts, even if they don't post. There do seem to a be few people using TS out there for different things, but gamers usually use 3dsmax, for various reasons (it seems every game mod out there supports it, for one thing).

Re: Has anyone been harassed for advocating Truespace?
3d max are users that usually dont know about other alternatives, maybe some few most known. For them 3Dmax is the only software and others are crapy. In fact 3Dmax is very unstable, freezes, falls down with errors. I heard that many times and I have a friend that uses 3Dmax that told me, that its true. Its very expensive and too complicated to use, imho. tS works alot better, is much more stable and is faster to use. 3D max only has more support by 3rd party developers. Always had more plugins, more renderengines, etc. Only this is making it one of top 3d apps.
But they just dont see it and need them to keep themselves in that 3Dmax is the only and best.
In my experiences i remember similar thing (like "what? truespace? what is that? why do you use such thing? why dont you learn 3dmax or maya or cinema"). Its just because the ppl dont know how convinient and fun the 3D modeling can be. They just dont know tS.

Hi all.
The tools are not important for me. All that interests me is what you do. This kind of comment is for idiots who study but do not create much. Some attitude in the world of 3D makes me stand back. I passed the age of childish bickering. I prefer to share about real projects.

Re: Has anyone been harassed for advocating Truespace?
I've overcome the few critic's of Truespace on that forum and continue to post TS articles. I also have my own TS modeling forum that I post links to for those who are interested in learning how to adapt their model making to work with BZII from a Caligari perspective.
I've had some experience using MAX from it's little brother GMAX, and stopped using it because I spent more time reading up on how to use it verses actually making models quite easily with Truespace once I discovered it. Hands down TS out performs MAX in many aspects. It's easier to learn and novice 3D model makers can get started right away creating some fantastically complex models and props for BZII.
Battlezone, is quite unique in many regards by allowing 3D model makers to create new content for the game and integrate their models in to new BZII expansion mods to help keep the game alive even after more then ten years after it's original release. Believe it or not MAX's chief advantage over Truespace is it's ability to directly export a version 1 XSI model where other modeling software like Truespace need to use a 3rd party file converter to achieve the same result. That's probably why I advocate Truespace to new BZII modelers.

The problem is not software its about people on the internet..... I have seen some very rough things even in camera forums
up to the point that members get bullied out of the forums.....
Software is software same as cameras are just cameras.....just tools.....

Re: Has anyone been harassed for advocating Truespace?
There's a control issue over on that forum. Truespace, is viewed in a poor light by only a few posters on that forum. They drove me off once in the past, but I reopened another account and had some peace until they discovered who I was again; it's always the same people too. I've told them that I have the same freedom to post about Truespace that others have to post about other software like Blender. Now a days I spent most of the time on that forum defending Truespace rather then posting articles on using it. I do manage to post a few TS articles here and there. I still haven't been banned over there so I guess I'll keep posting TS related stuff for as long as I can.RAYMAN wrote:The problem is not software its about people on the internet..... Re: Has anyone been harassed for advocating Truespace?
Ignore them and post what you want. Leave their posts or attacks on TS unanswered and post what you want about BZII, TS, or whatever. You only have a problem if the admins stop you from posting it.
I have seen a similar thing on a lawn care (my job) forum. Of course people advocate for the tools and brands of tools they like but I see some who are more interested in hating a particular brand or type of tool ("home" level bad, "pro" good).

Wow you too Finis?
I saw this huge feud going on at the 'kitchen goods' site; Tupperware vs. Rubbermaid!
Seriously though. It is interesting to see that this type of bickering takes place over
virtually everything in our lives. Cars. Cameras. Gardening tools. Software.
Forums are taken waaaay too seriously. But that's part of the internet culture,
apparently.
So anyway.

Like Marcel said, it is the results that matter not the software you are using.
Does it really matter which brand of Viagra or Cialis you use?
This trueSpace bashing has been going on for ages. Ignore them and stop wasting your time
with the morons. Dedicate your time on your projects instead and your talents will grow.

Not only do they hate us but they allow their forum moderators to get away with harrassing their forum members too. I just had a confrontation with one mod named VSMIT. He reminds me of a forum troll; he even jokingly admitted it once. I've appealed to the forum administrator to no avail. Well, if there are other BZII forums, maybe they are more supportive of you discussing tS
for modelling. If they are going to get upset because you are the only poster of tS there,
then just leave. Doesn't look like it's worth your time or effort over there.

Re: Has anyone been harassed for advocating Truespace?
Battlezone forums are on the decline Froo. That's why a lot of us tolerate the abuse. If we as poster's can't freely post articles about what we love regardless of what it is then it somewhat defeats the usefulness of the forum itself. They say I push Truespace, but I really don't. I post BZII articles from a Caligari perspective and most of the posters over are okay with that except where I've noted these exceptions. I guess I could just leave that forum in defeat, but I'd rather stand my ground, and not let a few poster's deter me from posting legitimate Truespace stuff. I've taken a few common sense measures to avoid confrontations like adding some users to my Foe list, so I don't see their' posts. Really, it just boils down to sticking it out come what may. If someone told you to stop using Truespace would you? I wouldn't, and no one should play that same game either. I plan on using Truespace for as long as can. It's actually hard for me to fathom using anything else for my simple modeling needs.froo wrote:Well, if there are other BZII forums, maybe they are more supportive of you discussing tS

Its pretty common that someone gets hit on the head for pointing people to some products.....
even if its not a product and just a way of doing things......
I ´ve changed my view of things lately to I know whats best for myself and let the others do what they want to...
.......the helper syndrom is gone by now.....
funny though that those that made Truespace are gone by now too.....
I guess that we have to live with the fact that things change over time........so do we...

If Michelangelo were alive today and you found out that he used a hammer and chisel to create
the Pietà and not a Dremmel would it matter?
I still use trueSpace and love using it. On the other hand a new Artist just learning 3d would be better off learning another application like Modo, Maya, etc because of their newer tools.
I try not to get caught up in the "trueSpace really is a good program, really...!"
trueSpace is our secret gifted application that only a few chosen are entitled to use. All the others will burn in Hell...

Re: Has anyone been harassed for advocating Truespace?
Battlezone, is in the same boat as Truespace. It's no longer supported and newer modeling software no longer supports it's antiquated XSI model format or the rather few model conversion tools. As I said my articles are little more then an alternate way to create BZII models from a Caligari perspective because the TS X exporter is one way of creating 3D models that are convertible to XSI version 1. Most of the newer people on that forum want to make models for the game. Most have little or no 3D modeling experience and Truespace represents a relatively simple model creation software.
I might also add that I mostly get criticized on the BZ forum by just one or two people; a user named Nielk1 and a moderator called VSMIT. Other BZ forum members in some cases have actually come to my defense about advocating Truespace, or have no opinion at all. I can live with that because they already have a modeling solution which I'm just fine with. I guess if I want to post articles then I should just do it regardless. I plan to continue all the same. Thanks for the feedback guys.

Hey guys. I'm going to take a break from the Truespace BZII modeling stuff for a while and just enjoy just playing the actual game itself. I've spent so much time modding for the game that I've kind of burned out with the whole modding thing. I guess somewhere down the road I'll resume again, but for now it's really time to give it a rest. Thanks for your feedback though it always helps get over the bumps in the road. Later.

The one's that have never even tried TS are the worst of all. They show their ignorance to the world when they diss a program they've never even tried to give an objective option. We know better though as we've tried it and more or less fell head over heels for Truespace. kudos to us all...darkmage wrote:people will just criticize anything they don't know.but personelyseppgirty wrote:people have always bad mouthed me for using truespace. for some reason people never wanted to give it a try.... it's a lot easier to use than blender, but never got the respect that blender does....
