MMC building

Post by rjeff »

Ok here is the start of my entry. Not sure how far I will get with my school and all, but I will give it the old college try. I can see that I am already way behind.

Hey RJeff, I like the unique design you have come up with.
For some reason I want to call it the "Toaster House" :)
Everything looks great except the top of the front two pillars,
they need an abacus.
Keep going this is looking great!

I like the 4 spires and that the building is not symmetrical. I like its boldness. Most buildings are kind of dull and don't have these prominent features.

Added somemore detail. I also redid the entrance to try and make it match up to the style of the building. Now I need to get to work on the tower.

Very nice.

My favorite historic style is Jugend and Art nouveau.

Your building at the top of the roof and the entrance to the building looks like a bit Jugend style. Looks really good. To make your building even more better I would like to suggest to have this style to the tower and the supporting pillars on the left side of the building.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Art_Nouveau for picture of Victor Hortas staircase. You will seen what I mean.

I think you will beat me in this months challange.

Ok this is probably not the time to do this, but I was just unsatisfied with some aspects of the building. Mainly the top level. It looked out of place. So I have done a redesign of the building.

Well, I liked the previous design but this looks good too. It is like a few buildings here that combine the old southwest features with more modern designs.

Oooh Noo!!!! Dont take the top of the building away!!

I liked the top of your building best because it reminds me of Art noveau.

The important thing is that YOU like the job you do. It will be interesting to see what you up to.

Well the last building made no sense. I looked at it and said, why is that second building on top of the main one? Why does the second one have that fancy green glass roof. I really could not answer these questions, so I decided to redesign with something that made sense. I still have alot to go on this one. I probably will not get done for the MMC, so I will just get it done. I have to make those "out riggers" smaller for one. As well as the small details.

I think Leonardo da Vinci didn't asked himself why Mona Lisa is smiling or there is a river in the background, also Michelangelo didn't asked himself why Pietà is holding a boy or why there is so many tissues on her, they just did that, art don't need to have explanation if you do a art with explanation, then you are doing science no art!

I think your previous building was more artistic.

Well I see your point for sure, howerver the way my mind works, things must have a reason. If not they bother me. I like for my art to have function, in respect to something like a building or things that are realistic. If were something that was made up, like a spaceship, then I tend to relax my standards. It may be wrong or right, but that is how I am.

I also have this kind of barrier, I always try to follow the reality, even when I was 7 all games that I create to play with friends tried to cover some subject from reality, I create the Distortion of the Time, where you come back to any age you want and with objects from the present well, I research about the materials to do things, where they were located in the globe to then when they come back to the stone age and want to boost the discovers of certain civilization they do it realistically, like where are the iron to do machines, etc... That was really important for my scientific formation but probably didn't affect my friends so much since they just explore and discovery things.

So in 3D I always try to imitate the reality, maybe because of that I can't do cartoons or my cartoons sucks, anyway I always try to break it as I did with the suspended city (it's just impossible) anyway I tried to do the way it would reach almost the reality...

So do whatever you want, some people born with the art in direction and for they, if it's beautiful it's art and not need to be beautiful with reason, and seems that most people like reason, because of that humanity has a scientific boost and the culture too but more the science, what I don't understand is what does makes the human hunt their similar.

Ahh no need for apologizes there leon. You are right in the sense I need to let up abit, and maybe I will revisit ther other building. I find that when I am playing games, I wonder what the people, in the game, not the designers, were thinking when they built their civilization.

Leon:
You should not compare or contrast the art and sciense. Nothing is totally one or the other. When a scientist discovers a fundamental idea, he don't use only knowledge. He has the inspiration that can look like art. When a talented artist do an incredible work, it can be the result of scientific knowledge. Art has no definition acceptable to me. It's a way of thinking and acting that everyone possesses but some have more capacity than others or are better able to exploit it. Picasso said: "an artist copy, a genius plunders". those that say we must use our inspiration (art) to understand the world around us (sciense).

I like both buildings. They both have an interesting style and also look like things that could be built. I liked the first one better but this one is cool too.

Art/creativity and science/math/tech. are usually linked in people. Often, not always, those who excel in one are capable in the other. Einstein: "Imagination is more important than knowledge."
