Which Tool Merges Two Objects?

Post by Excalibur »

I did the organics tutorial, I think it covered merging two objects, but I forgot how. So, now I'm making a tank and need to merge the tracks with the body, how do I do that?

Model: 'Glue As..'
Workspace: 'Encapsulate' or 'Encapsulate in 3D'
One other method that you probably wouldn't use in this particular case is Boolean Union. Generally not reversible.

The method I used in the tutorial was to create the primitives while in mesh edit mode which automatically added them to the mesh. But for what you're doing, you either want to "encapsulated in 3D" if you want the objects maintain their relative positions to each other and move as a group. Or boolean merge or boolean union if you want them to become one mesh. The boolean merge tool is safer because it doesn't add any new geometry just collapses the objects into one mesh. With the boolean tool options that actually perform an intersection calculation, you may have to do some geometry clean up.

I tried the "encapsulate in 3D" and they don't move as one. How do you do that one?

If you select the object you move the object, if you select the group then you move the group. ;)

Ok, got it, I control clicked each object and it selected them all, then I enscapulated in 3D. I got a full tank now, and a cool texture, too!
