I imported this download of a Mitsubishi car and while working on changing the materials
I noticed something in the oject that I don't know what it is. Is called control mesh in the
Scene editor and its grouped with the tyre object. Is this part of truespace?

Strange, it looks like a TS widget but it's way out of proportion. I don't think I've ever had this with TrueSpace. In your scene, is it a static object or can you pull at the X,Y,Z axes?
The tyre object is a subdivision surface (SDS). SDS's have the purple icon in the Scene Editor. The control mesh is the original mesh that was subdivided. If you delete the control mesh object you wont be able to un-subdivide the object.
I don't know why it has that shape. It is not part of TS like a control or widget or such.

Yes, you are right, its the control Mesh. I drew a simple cube and subdivied it a couple of times and
then right clicked on the cube in scene editor and selected edit to activate the control mesh.
Its doesn't seem to allow me to rotate or move or do anything with it.
