Lights, camera, focus....no focus

Post by spacekdet »

This is sort of embarrassing, but I just can't figure out how to set/ reset the focus of a camera in Workspace.
I don't know what I did to knock it out of focus, and now I can't get it back.

Tried the usual tricks of setting a Look At target. Nope.
Tried using Model to set it via Look At. Nope.
Deleted it and made another camera. Nope.
Even tried using Yamaneko DOF post process. Nope.

Depth Of Field box in render options is unchecked.
So... where is the 'infinite focus' reset button?

Not sure what infinite focus is.
Are you referring to FOV? Right click that attribute and select Reset.
Are you viewing from the Eye Camera or Camera? You have to select the 3D View window (has focus) when changing views.
Reset the Default Context?

Infinite focus: I know it's not a tS term but I'm referring to say, my camera (real one, not in tS) where everything in the shot from front to back is in focus. Seems like this was the default behavior in tS but I've changed it somehow.

'Right click that attribute' Forgive my denseness, but where is this? What should the default value be?

I've tried it viewing from an actual tS camera and also with no camera.
No difference, it's still got some extreme DOF going on.
Only one view window open, as my open new (small) window icon has also gone missing.

I know no one cares, but I hate the new icon setup/ layout scheme. So easy in Model, so difficult in WS.
Once a WS icon disappears, it's gone forever.
I probably will have to reset everything and start over.

The FOV attribute default setting is 0.785

"I've tried it viewing from an actual tS camera and also with no camera."
The Eye camera above is the present 3D view. If you have the Unofficial Update installed you can Ctrl+LMB select the green part of the View Widget to show the Eye camera in the Stack.

"Once a WS icon disappears, it's gone forever."
Not true in most cases as you can LMB click on the toolbar's triangle icon and select Reset.

"I probably will have to reset everything and start over."
Reset the Default Context.

"I know no one cares, but I hate the new icon setup/ layout scheme. So easy in Model, so difficult in WS."
Have you tried the Expanded layout?

I get it. I'll change my diaper and stop crying.

Odd. My FOV value was still set at default value.

Is the 'Focus' parameter what I want to adjust? Does this use meters as units?
In your image it's set to 100, would this then mean that objects @ 100 meters from the camera will be in focus?

The problem I have with resetting a toolbar is that by the time I need to do that I've got it so modified and mixed up from the original that I usually have to reset them all.
My own fault but I incrementally make changes to the Layout and often forget to save them. Getting better at this, eventually I'll be an expert.

I don't know who designed the original default layout but whoever it is the urge to shoot them in the face has occasionally struck me. My apologies to your face.

I have 7.6 stock and 7.61 installed. Not sure what an Extended Layout is.

Still not sure if the out of focus problem is due to a VRay setting or a tS one. Glad I do this just for fun.

Vray? Have you checked the Camera aspect? These are the default values. HTH

FYI: The Vray settings are saved with you scene. When you create a new scene the original Vray is used.
Toolbars are not saved when saving your Layout. If you interested in how you can save your toolbars, let me know.
The Expanded layout comes with the Unofficial Update.

That was it. Boy do I feel stupid.

Thank you.

UPDATE: OMG, now that it's in focus, this render looks horrible. But hey, now I know!
