Re: what´s the future of photography and 3d (an article..)
I don't understand all because my bad english but:
What characterizes the practical innovations is the Convergent Technologies. The mobile phone becomes the central part. I think the cameras, video camera, GPS, etc. ... will be so good on a phone that specialized equipment will eventually disappear. I think that dinosaurs did not really disappeared. they have adapted to their environment. Some have become birds. The same goes for our technology. The problem is an object that does everything become too important in our lives. Losing it is unthinkable. It should therefore be incorporated in our body. Beyond 2050, we will find it difficult to distinguish between what the brain does and what the technology inside our body does. The danger is to lose the foundation of our society based in education. Why learn to school if i can buy a "brain chip". The risk is losing its personality based on the human default. The difference with dinosaurs is we control our environnement. I hope we are intelligent enough to stay in the right direction.
When we discover a new technology, it requires specialization. Then, applications are proliferating. Specializations too. Then we find a way to combine everything and specializations disappear. Until the day a new invention appears. Is a cycle of life of technology makes me think of a fractal organization. This is the basic principle of nature. Nothing fundamentally change. We need some centuries more. But to do what?...

I believe that you have to think of that future can't be predicted. The future will always be different no matter how you have predicted. Now we live in a time that are uncertain. China and Kina with 2 billions of people are raising there living standards and with our living standard in the Western World it results a huge strain on the earth. Is there energy supply and raw materals enough to sustain the living standard we are having for the whole world?
I wan't the whole population on the earth should have a decent living standard. The big issue is how to use the natural resorses in a economic way so this is possible.
I have read the article and think the articles prediction is possible. But what happens if the earth resourses can't supply enough energy and raw materials?

That reminds me of the scene in THX1138 where the strange guy talks to a child with small IV bottles on his arm. He asks what the child is studying. The child says some long string of technical sounding words. With the traditional "you have it so easy now" type of statement, the strange guy gestures with his hands and says when he was a kid that was a bottle this big.marcel wrote:Why learn to school if i can buy a "brain chip".

In a very near futur, internet will need more energy than all the others industries in the world. Do you know that a simple request with Google (0.01 second) need the energy of a lamp during an hour! That is the reality of today. The servers of big companies are near the river only to refresh their servers not for the landscape. The Colorado stop before arrive at the ocean! that is an other reality of today! not the futur. When you phone to a people near you, your conversation can do thousand miles and need thousand of computers. It is an aberration of the centralization. If each house produced his own energy we would not need to transport all these energy. I think technologies need to go in this way to avoid problem in the futur.

Re: what´s the future of photography and 3d (an article..)
He He. each time we discuss about futur it's hot!
back to the topic:
i think we will have a lot of technologies for 3d photo. the actual problem is how to diffuse that. It is archaic to see a 3d movie with glass (20 years old). Several method without glass exist but it is expensive today. Also tv is not logical to see real 3d because we have only a surface and the brain is not stupid. There is 3 ways:
-Photo and movies with relief (one picture for each eye).
-real 3d with relief (finally same method).
-hologram (360 degrees but always on a cylindric surface).
for all these methods we have always the same problem: we need a surface.
The futur of the real 3d depend if we can resolve the problem of surface. Japanese laboratory can produce image without surface. They create a collision on the molecule to produce a light floating on the air. Problem: the pixel have several thousands degrees.
One of the first app for 3d photo will be for augmented reality. I imagine a format "raw 3d" to have info about the size of the object that I shoot. It is that kind of function who can be interesting for people and market. But we can't avoid the surface during 20 or 30 years...
