Hard drive prob

OK got myself a new external hard drive one that you just put in a tray and
push it in the pc 500gig .My problem is i cant find it to use, its in the bios
and in the hardware maneger thing but not with the other hardives .How can i get
this thing up and running ,i can do most things with a pc but this beats me.
Any help guys on this

Looks like there is no letter assigned to your drive, so it isn't visible in explorer. Right?
Try the following:
Start -> computer -> Computerverwaltung -> Datenspeicher -> Datenträgerverwaltung
you will find there some options to setup your partitions on DVD's / HD's / USB's to work with windows. If you use windows of course.

Here is what the original W7 manual (german) says:

1 Melden Sie sich als Administrator an, klicken Sie
auf Start, geben Sie computer im Suchfeld ein und
klicken Sie dann auf Computerverwaltung, um das
gleichnamige Fenster zu öffnen.
2 Klicken Sie auf den Pfeil vor einem Eintrag, um
die Untereinträge einzublenden. Klicken Sie auf ein
Element, um Details anzuzeigen.
3 Verwenden Sie die Elemente im Hauptbereich,
um Informationen zu sammeln oder Einstellungen
anzupassen.
