We always see runners with the Olympic torch and the lighting of the flame for the games. Did you ever wonder how the torch begins it journey? The high priestess of Hera lights it at the temple of Hera in Olympia, Greece. She calls on Apollo (sun god) to light it and holds it in front of a parabolic mirror so it is lit by the rays of the Sun.
They are actors and maybe athletes now days but that is the temple of Hera. I wonder if she is speaking modern or ancient Greek. I think this ceremony was devised many years ago by the modern Olympic committee. Perhaps it is based on some knowledge of the ancient ceremonies?
It is pretty dull except the lighting part. A commenter said that when the high priestess gives the torch to the first runner she says, "strive to win".

Does Olympic BMX remind anyone else of speed skating in the Winter Olympics? Go as fast as you can and hope nobody next to you falls and takes you out.

The ceremony was pretty interesting. I wonder what the Greek Gods would do if it was a cloudy day.

There are videos of other years where things didn't go well. I don't remember what they did but I think it was lit from the flame the priestess brought from the temple. Wouldn't be surprised if the torch is rigged now.

I'll tell ya what that torch also stood for. When that torch is lit, ALL hostilities must stop, and no one can dishonor that.
Don't care Where the event takes place. One Does Not threaten violence, anywhere near it.
It is a peaceful gathering of humanity as a whole.
