Anyone stayed up to watch the 7 minutes of terror on Mars. We have 2 years of some interesting discoveries.

I didn't stay up however I think this project will be awesome! It is another incredible achievement by mankind!
Just think if we lived on Mars we would all be half our age. (some of us already act like it...

)

Mikom, the Curiosity rover's entry into the atmosphere and landing on Mars is being called "7 minutes of terror" because that took 7 minutes to complete and was the main time for catastrophe.

Hopefully it will have a long and productive mission. I didn't watch the landing live since there wasn't really any video of it. The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter took a photo of Curiosity descending on its parachute. Curiosity has sent several photos.

Actually yes! I did see it! Per chance on Gizmodo! Was cool. They had just landed and were waiting for confirmation that it was still "alive"! I couldn't sleep that night... so watched it!

I'm not sure what this means, but that a few thousand mile journey with a few million dollars finally did it's job! Go team!!!
Hope they find good reasons to start colonizing mars!

It is real. It was to have been launched 2 years ago but were not ready. They did not want a repeat of the first polar lander. The picture of lander with it parachute is interesting, but did land very close to its intended landing spot. Are you going tell me the JPL personal were acting? No one is that good a actor.

Mars Science Laboratory, Curiosity, sent info about radiation levels during its 8.5 month journey. That was a good idea. Use space probes' travel time for science too.

Are Spirit, Opportunity and ... the one before them, still sending info? The Viking landers are off line now right?

PS: Yeah; no tracks. And... This is the workmanship/design we came up with?? Everything is exposed. The wiring, the connections. Hope they're not using bolts from China.
They say the biggest problem up there is micro dust particles. No UV protection, extreme high/low temps. No; I think this is a pic of a mock up model somewhere out in our deserts.

It may not have traveled yet so no tracks.

I noticed on the 360 spherical image that there is debris on it except on parts that probably moved or have steep slopes. The debris looks like larger pieces but not sand. Probably the stuff stirred up by the sky crane's engines and the smaller particles mostly blew off as the crane flew away. I wonder if debris from the crane was considered in its design.

No trace either from the jets of the craft that was supposed to land the rover.

Nice Arizona desert view though. Or it could be a scene of Lybian desert perhaps

A bit of skepticalism does not harm. I don't know about ESA spacecrafts, maybe presidential elections in the EU are too many and come too often to justify a massive rocket.

you remember the first moon landing !!!! BOY YOU ARE OLD !!!

Well i remember it too.. not only do I remember it but I was in an american school (elementary) back then and we made a simulated space flight....
it was over night and it was great fun... part of the class was in one room and the other part was in the other room in a capsule made out of
plywood and paper... and some early electronics that I put in there.....
We comunicated with walky talkys.....
Our school teachers were in the middle in a seperate hallway one male and one female).... and we looked through the keyhole sort of into outer space...
We still dont know up to date what they did on top of each other......

It's all quite amazing and I hope the mission yields some clue of life on Mars. It would certainly blow away all the preceptions we currently have about life outside of our own sphere of existence.

This totally proves that Mars is flat. Hope the rover doesn't roll off the edge!

The problem here is whoever is narrating the video is making assumptions while not looking at the primary data; but at a 3D simulation.
He's looking at what appears to be a 3D web tool for displaying a simulation. He states right in the video that it's a 'compilation'- many different photos stitched together.
Does the primary data set have gaps- i.e. missing areas that were not photographed?
Will those gaps make your pretty 3D web experience look like poo-poo? Better fill them in.
Nothing nefarious going on, the 3D artist is here on Earth. Now, should they have left those gaps in the texture maps?
Probably, but do you like your textures seamless or not? Big gaps would ruin the immersive 'you are there' effect the web developer is attempting.

The narrator should go to the source data- the individual photos before they are stitched together- and look at those before making claims and allegations about validity.

Last month I took this picture with a simple camera. The sky was clear and there was this light. By magnifying it seems to me that it was Mars. The halo of light must be an effect due to the Earth's atmosphere.
