Unity Demo - Game - Winter Project

Post by Humdinger »

You know what they say - a picture is worth a thousand words....

PS - to include I am just getting familiar with these two new applications making sure I can get my 'old' TS models etc - boned - animated in blender - and import into unity - before i get crackin' at trying out making a simple (though destructive) game to learn. Oh and why the hell can I not just leave 3D alone !!!

see attachment jpeg for screenshot from today -some - but not all will hopefully remember these two guys. :D They animate - simple face rig included.

f'ing blender is pretty damn sweet - makes you work a bit like a robot at times - LOL - but the results and flexibility to this point are spot on! Especially for the price! :D

Hope to stay focused and motivated - will post progress

Hey Humdinger great to hear from you!
<just reminiscing here> I remember I met you, Thomas Grimes, and of course Roman Ormandy at SigGraph in 2006. You were helping out at the Caligari booth.
Interestingly enough, Dennis Borruso (3dFrog) was working at the Animation:Master booth right across from the Caligari booth, though I didn't know him at the time. I said, 'hey', and he replied the same heh.

Rock On!

Hey Humdinger, glad to see you back into the swing of things.

I keep getting email from Unity to upgrade, but have become unmotivated. heh

Looking good and from memory you have quite a few characters to bring over from tS. So get cracking! :)

Hi

Some progress - though still just futzing around during this learning process.

Link to Short video - wmv - 640 x 480 - with audio - 1min 29 secs - screen capture of unity3d 'game view' - 33meg due to minimal compression - lousy frame rate in capture - but what the hell.

Okay so I finally made a game. I wanted to learn how to use Unity ... so I made a game that I thought I would like to play while I was at it. Still a WIP, but I am looking for some playtesters for this initial public release.

Overall pretty causal, takes 3- 4 minutes to complete – no death or blood - similar to games like Crush, Crumble and Chomp and Rampage – but hopefully with enough ‘twists’ of my own. If you know of those games and like them that is a big plus – let me know. You can play it online or if you have a PC a standalone version is available that plays that much smoother than the web based version. Though I will be asking any tester to try the web based version.

So if you are interested, are willing to read a manual and fill out a short form with some questions I have after you have played the game – let me know via message or reply to this post. I do not know how many people I am going to start with.

At this time there is no version of this that is phone or android compliant – and there is no standalone version of the MAC yet available… if you computer is more than 5 years old you may have problems playing the game (too much going on - will play super slow – or just stay stuck on the initial world view ).

Wow has it been over a year ? Yes it has.

Long story short my original game concept - though working - is a real resource hog at times so i decided to put it on the back burner while I improved my understanding of unity by working on smaller projects. So far so good in that I would code the original game very differently today.

Anyway I will get there - but in the meanwhile... enjoy and feel free to comment. If all goes well set for public release in February 2014
-------------------------------------------------------------

Trippy the Triceratops … Poppin’ Poppies – a mini-game - by me!

Do you like Dinosaurs, butterflies, entomology, hallucination inducing floral arraignments or to pay attention? The potential for effervescent jubilation? Or maybe you just like to play casual games, or know someone that does? Well then give mine a try and share with anyone you think might want to give it a try! (Please note beta version-not a commercial release).

Hints and instructions available during download and in game.

Not for play of Android of iPhone devices at this time. PC or MAC - keyboard and mouse required - not yet tested on touch screen devices. See if you can get trippy to experience the ‘perfect’ trip!!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

On a side note feel good that all these years of low poly modeling have paid off - as I find myself calling on all my 'tricks' in order to keep the game frames per second as high as possible. Nothing worse than a game that looks great but runs at 10 frames per second on a average PC.

Also many of the models are currently purchased models from Unity Asset store - big time savers as I work to understand the precious code 'The life blood of the game'.

enjoy!

CONGRATS on the new game! I have slow internet so I couldn't preview it, but I'm pretty chuffed you managed to pull off a whole game! Tis true, all knowledge acquired from the past does come in handy eventually!
