So I was in school (BS in computer science) and one class was about teamwork. The prof. had students form teams and design software to control the flow in sewers and storm drains reacting to challenges like floods and blockages. A waste management system. The product was a proposal to get the job -- as if the team was a business. My team named itself "Team Voodoo". One member was bored and wrote this requirement in a document: "It will be a KARRMFOAWMS - Kick Ass Rockin' Rollin' MoFo of a Waste Management System". The prof. reviewed the proposals and discussed them with the class noting, "One team even said how good it would be." Fortunately it was another team and we did remove KARRFOAWMS but there was that "oh no!" moment.

Looking for a team member for this challenge.

I can do post work (textures) and UV's, if someone wants to do the modeling.

Model must be in OBJ format so I can do it another program like 3DCoat, Photoshop, etc.

:bananaclaus:

Also, I make only instant coffee and eat raw peanuts of which I scatter and leave the shells on the floor.

Hmmm.. this is a curious competition. But handy for later projects.

I too am looking for a partner - to brainstorm ideas with. I could model something - light - render - texture - even rig and animate.

Interesting idea, the teamwork. I'm just thinking... if everybody does that there won't be a lot of entries though, unless we suddenly get a whole bunch more active members.

Anyway, I'm up for a collab project. I'm up for modeling just about anything though rendering is where I usually fall flat on my face.
Draise, I know you still work with trueSpace now and then. If you're up for rendering I suppose we could try thinking of something we could cook up together.

Still one tiny problem, my net-speed is usually not very good so file sharing might take some time.

This is very good idea.
I have made collaborative drawings with others at School, i make something on paper, send it next door where collaborator modifies and sends it back. Have to have it back within 24 hours. The strengths of each were shared, i was presented with stuff not considered and forced to confront it!
That was 2D on paper, this is more exciting in 3D!
I am offering collaboration, anyone want to try this challenge with me as partner?
Conditions:
1) only tool - tS7.61
2) 24 hour turnaround
3) Sequence ends with whatever we got April 1st.

Glad to see people are interested. Remember you don't have to work on a team and there might not be a partner for everybody who wants one (so show 'em what you can do on your own!).

Mikom, I thought about that, not many entries. That's why teams can have only 2 members = more teams. Also I hope that team productivity results in more than one entry from some ... or more ambitious projects that couldn't have been done alone. There will probably also be interesting disasters we all probably know from teamwork. Maybe some who don't usually have time can participate on a team. That could increase the number of entries.

Please remember this is for fun so no hurt feelings if you don't get a partner, a solo artist beats all the teams, things don't work well on your team ... it's just fun right?

Draise is so productive he is a team all by himself.

I'd team up with James and his wicked imagination but I observe the tradition of not entering a challenge you run. Marcel! Now that would be an honor. Steinie, Steinie, Steinie (like Marsha, Marsha ...) everybody wants him.

Saul, glad you're here! The entries are due by March 26 so April 1 won't work (unless there's and extension).

What would happen if two people teamed up, finished their project, posted the finished rendering and then offered their services to help another member as a team?
The rules state you can't. Can that be an exception?
Also Finis teaming up with James should be considered. This Challenge is to help everyone and I'd hate to see anyone left out. It is suppose to be FUN!

Steinie, good point. Various things like that could happen and we can adapt if they do. They couldn't both help the other member since that would create a 3 person team. You can only be on one team but I guess if a team dissolved then the members could form new teams. "One team at a time" interpretation of the rules. Besides, it is for fun not for lawyers.

You can enter solo. Solo artists just make the theme of the entries "teamwork".

My thought is that this is an aether-eal place where birds of a feather flock together, as the currents of comraderie lifts each of us higher... in 3D... so helping other teams shouldn't be a problem.

Anyway, I'm willing to throw in my hat. I would prefer to model and/or animate.

Here's a thought: Your idea for a model. We work out the final shape. I model, you texture, I animate (if it's simple or lends itself to it within deadline).
We present it, win the prize money, bada bing bada bang... boom. Out the door.
Next job.
:)

PS: I promise to do my part, put in required time necessary and have this all finished by the deadline. All I ask is that you do also because for practice I'm gonna treat this as a real job, and it has a pretty short time limit for something we're starting from scratch.
Also, I use Blender, GIMP, and zbrush, and if you have Skype that would be awesome.

I could picture Saul and Draise working out a scene since they both use and understand 7.61 well. Both are very gifted artist with very different styles, that could prove interesting.

Hehehe, this whole making teams is as crazy as running around a crowd then someone shouts "now pick a partner!" and everyone runs into each others faces. :P

I will join with the first person to either write me to draise14(a)gmail . com OR send me a PM here on the forums.

I'll then proceed to create a shared GoogleDrive space or a Dropbox, or Mediafire space to start working. Don't forget to include your email - skype or G+ hangouts option - and give you Skype or Hangout details.

Themes I'm offering could go down the scifi route, as there are a lot of spaceships and aliens going around the forums these days - I'll also suggest some alternatives.

Software:
Ts7.61 beta 8 - WS mostly and almost profficiently.
Blender - limited
Autodesk Softimage- profficient and professionally (almost)
Others: SMAK, Sculptris, Mudbox, etc

Themes - to offer as suggestions to brainstorm:
-Continuation of my Alkathosk project development (which is a collaborative project anyway)
-A city scene
-A simple character animation (with an Alkathosk character?)
-An aircraft/spacecraft
-A cockpit
-A natural Forrest scene
-A hybrid animal (I model one part, you model the other!)
-A hybrid vehicle (similar concept)

I'll work with you as soon as I get the mail or message!

Ah, and if you ever want to call me, I'm in Colombia, South America. The country code starts with a 57! :P

My candidates could be either @Mikomdude or @Saul, as mentioned earlier by yous! But again, who mails me first wins (figuratively)!

Looks like everyone who is interested in forming a team is inviting others to join. Looks like that's not working. Suggestion: Ask a specific individual you would like to work with to form a team with you ... get shot down, ask someone else, knock her up, shotgun wedding, few years living in a trailer, nasty divorce ... no, what was I typing about?

When a team forms remember to post the name and membership here.

I have had two requests, and one beat the other. So I have paired up with Mikom! We will see what we can do! As soon as we figure out a team name, we will go public.

Hopefully the others figure it out. Working in tandem is harder than one thinks. :P

For starters... I think the start/end dates should change since its taking a while to get this sorted out.

Now...
lol This feels like being at a dance. The shy ones are always last to get involved, and end up dancing by themselves... or just leaving the dance.
Then there's always the loners. They're used to being alone, so not used to asking anyone to dance with... thus, comfort zone intact, opportunity lost, progress stifled.
Oh c'monn... take a chance. There is No loss from participation; only degree of extra progress gained or lost.

How abt... everyone who wants to participate and has not paired up yet, post your availability.

Drew Dragneye is available.

I too think a this Challenge should be two Months not one but for other reasons. My initial plan is to join with another member once we finish the first one. This will help others out in the cold (drinking away their sorrows and having a great time) (I plan to ruin their lives with my low IQ)

Extending the challenge to two months. That seems desired by contestants and considering the time needed for teams to form and organize it is needed. Of course, a solo artist could take advantage of that by starting now. While teams waste time organizing he could be creating! Entry deadline is now April 25, 2014 midnight your location (latest midnight of either team member).

Two months is also good for re-forming teams like Steinie says. So the rule about only being on one team means one team at a time. If a team dissolves (project done, can't work together, one member has to quit ...) then the former members are certainly free to form new teams.

I'm making a Team Names thread for announcements of team names and membership and solo status announcements. It could be hard to find those here among the general comments. Please post that here: Team Names thread vi ... =66&t=4376

It's March already. The decision should have been made already. I don't mind stepping out since that way the two left can team up and it all works out even.
No secret messages needed (unless you prefer it). James... Saul, you two willing to team up? That would give it a three way challenge and give these boys some real competition. I'm willing if either of you just say the word, but I would be in pressure mode since puter time is limited for me.
Either way... say something boys.

If you three shy wallflowers (Saul, Dragneye, JamesMC) want to team up we can change it to allow 3 person teams. That would apply retroactively to the existing teams too: they could accept new members if they want.

There are active members here who haven't participated in a challenge for a long time. How about it?

Remember that you don't have to be on a team to compete. You can work individually just like a regular challenge. Just use "teamwork" as the theme or subject of your entry. (Teams get to make their own themes.)

Do your own entry then James. That's something I had hoped would happen: teams and individuals competing. It explores teams having to coordinate and organize vs. the streamlined approach of an individual.

I think Steinie plans to wrap up an entry from his team and then form a new team.

The Funny Farm roars along while Team Stratos has disappeared. Poor Team Stratos: people showing up drunk, creative differences, power plays to get that promotion and corner office.

Still people available to work solo or form teams. Y'all communicate. Ask someone to join you. Ask folks who haven't expressed interest in the challenge. Who knows, maybe they'll be interested.

Great Dragneye! That's why solo entries are allowed.

So there are two large organizations with bloated bureaucracies that have to run every decision through fifteen committees and one streamlined independent with no creative clashes, no required procedures, no reports to file ... come on James and Saul you can enter solo too or team up!

Wish you could participate Steve.

Team "The Funny Farm" has dissolved because our project has been completed.

I know Pugman1 would like Dragneye to team up as an option.
Saul wants to use only tS7.61 which doesn't work for me. (plus the fact he is too good an artist...)
I'll send an email to JamesM to see if he is still interested. (I'll never be the same again)(update:his email address is dead)
Finis should be able to join too btw. (Since you now have the horsepower)
Did I forget anyone?
If James is not interested then I am up for grabs. (Below is my skill set)
Although going solo in my dark, dank, odorous corner of a room could be fun.

List of Skills:
I can make things that look like pretzels in 3D
I cannot make automobiles.
I cannot make things that look like Angelina Jolie, there are blow up dolls for that.
I cannot make a torus, sphere, or cylinder. ( I cheat and use pre-made ones)
I like beer.

Hahahaha

...that's not funny. :geek:

Team Stratos is slowly but surely getting work done. Communication is a bit of a problem because of different time zones and the way I understand it Draise already works enough for two people at his regular job.
Maybe we should restructure some in Team Stratos putting some more of the work-load on me. I admit to not having done much meself either these past few days as I had to sort out a thing or two here at my apartment.

We will keep you posted. Team Stratos is far from finished ;)

Preliminary texture work being done.
I know it doesn't amount to a hill of beans, yet.
No danger of bankruptcy because I think you need money for that first, right?
I shouldn't be in any danger.

Things are at a slow simmer, there even may be a WIP thread...eventually. Maybe.

There will be no significant extensions to the deadline April 25, 2014 (maybe a day or two if anyone is almost there). So have an alternate plan to finish something for an entry in case you can't finish your primary one in time.

Didn't Nigec write that he might join?

The end draws near. Get those entries done. Deadline is midnight at your location April 25. For teams that's midnight for the team member farthest west giving you the most time.

Make something with what you've got if you think you won't finish your main plan in time.

I threw my hat in the ring, but then it got crapped in by a dragon, stomped on by robots, and then blown entirely out of the ring by the jet blast from a spaceship.
I'm out.

@Dragneye: Y'all's entry is fine. Rules say to provide a wire frame but who cares? This is for fun so no need to worry about every detail.

Since Steinie and Spacekdet are out and everyone else's entries are posted there is no reason to wait until Apr 26 to start the poll. Any objections to starting the poll tomorrow Apr 25 instead of Apr. 26?

Remember this: The winning team works together to pick a theme, make rules, and run the next challenge. How you do that is up to you (assign that function to one of you, devise an ultra-complex system, ...)

With all known contestants accounted for we could start the poll early. It's just one day difference so I'll just start it on schedule tomorrow morning my time zone (mountain time, UTC - 07:00).

@Draise:

Yes, the humor (mine too) was not so funny but I doubt there are hard feelings about anything. Spacekdet was noting that he will not have an entry for the challenge by humorously implying that the other entries are so good that he wouldn't have a chance to win. Then others played on the funny image of a hat full of crap.

I believe Dragneye was concerned that team Doodlesacks' entry did not have a wire frame as required by the rules. No problem. Let's bend the rules. It would be silly to disqualify a perfectly good entry on a little technicality in a contest that is just for fun.

It's all good. Just big boy fun. After Many years of being on here I've noticed that anybody who is being rude on purpose is quickly set straight. This is like an extended-family hang out room. The differences stem more from cultural difference than anything else. Or personal sensitivities. Or language. People that mean ill never seem to last long here, which is exactly as it should be.

Now you got me wondering.
Draise... you do know that I was just playing around when I said our bots should come and mess up your station/ship.... right? Definitely didn't mean any actual malice, or ego trip. Right?

I have to do a time sensitive job so starting the poll will be delayed a couple of hours.

Battle of the entries? That would be cool if it could be like an MMO game! Dwarfs, dragons, robots, spaceships in a huge brawl!

A maiden fair
Sing Polly wolly doodle all the day
With curly eyes
And laughing hair
Sing Polly wolly doodle all the day

Fare thee well,
Fare thee well,
Fare thee well my fairy fay
For I'm going to Lou'siana
For to see my Susy-anna
Singing Polly wolly doodle all the day

hehe, thanks everyone. :D :D :D

I really enjoyed this one! All the entries were superb! It was a pleasure working with Mikom, and he's a really talented modeler for sure! And the sculpting you guys pulled off was great, so many characters! And the lighting and concept of those robots were great, the textures, all of it. I really like that one. :)

I am sure the next one will be fun too. ;)
