Google evil - I'll shut down my Youtube channel

Post by Finis »

Google is evil.

Well, I avoid Google and its properties and accomplices whenever I can but there seems to be no substitute for Youtube. But ... today I went to my channel and some videos were marked "Watched". I wasn't logged in but it new that I had watched those videos (I only log in to put up a new video). I did watch them in the last few days. Then I went to some of my favorite channels and they also had the "Watched" label on recently viewed videos.

Also it is almost impossible to log in without signing up for every Google thing there is.

So, Google's snooping and tracking has become so evil that I will shut down my Youtube channel and load the videos somewhere else. Probably Vimeo.

Thing is, some of the artists I like are "Youtube stars". YT is really the only good place to see them. I'll try using Spybot S & D's proxy server and some browser plug in's and see if G. can still track what videos I watch.

So again, I'll shut down my YT channel and delete its content whenever I can and after uploading to some other place.

What other video sites are similar to YT and how do they compare to YT?

Vimeo used to be a good site - I don't post many videos so not up to speed.

If you use Firefox, get a cookie blocker for your browser (addon), and that would fix your problem. Adblocker also does this. Also a "Do not track me" addon. Firefox can be quite anonymous once you figure out the addons, and you can still benifit from all services without their cookies and scripts.

My "watched" video tracking now never works and it actually irks me off! The irony.

Looks like Vimeo then but I'm still interested in any YT alternatives you all know about. It will be a while before I have time to switch.

@Draise, if you log in to YT then it can probably do the Watched thing at least for what you watch while logged in. Inconvenient to log in just to watch.

Dumping cookies turned off the "Watched" thing so blocking them is the key to that. I thought I had them all dumping when I close Firefox and well blocked with it. I'll look for some plugins.
