Truespace update

Post by marcel »

Since the last official TS, there is a lot of improvment made by members of this forum. the problem is each improvment need to install something separately. Most of these improvment are lost in internet for most of people. all these works end up in oblivion fast. It lack something to merge all these work. I think about a webpage with all finished improvment and a zip to download all in one time. for each improvment we need info about how to install and use these new features. In case of reinstallation of TS it would be a good thing. course this requires coordination between programmers. but without it there will be no real visible progress. this would be a shame that programmers do all that for nothing.

Isn`t trueBlue`s unofficial Updates such a pack? The rest is plugins that you may or may not need. And so you may or may not install them.

Regarding visible progress: the trueSpace development is stopped. Officially there will be no visible progress anymore. The number of trueSpace users has dramatically decreased. And the few plugins that nevertheless arrives can be applied one by one nowadays. I don`t see a need for such a all in one package.

I´ve collected all stuff i`ve found into a workspace Plugin list. This Workspace Plugin list should be somehow up to date. I have to add the Point Clone script.

Maybe no one package but all the stuff collected could be on a web page with info to install and link to download. The number of trueSpace users has dramatically decreased as the number of creation on the forum. people here are nice and talk about everything. but the forum has not adapted to change and I do not see a lot of work sharing. those who want to exchange ideas on a wip done with another software will go into another forum. myself, I no longer want to continue my wip here. no reactivity. next year I'll certainly less often active. damage but everything has an end.

Marcel, as told, i have already collected the stuff at my Workspace Plugin Links List, which can be found in my signature :)

Just in case, here it is the link again: http://reinerstileset.4players.de/tsWSpluginsE.html"

It`s always hard to change the orientation of a forum. Just a few communities manages the jump from a specialized community to a more general one. And the United Artists board here is still a very specialized board towards trueSpace. But it is possible. Let`s have a look what the future brings :)

Thats pretty sad because we like your creations and a lot of people are in the transition phase so they have stopped using Truespace but dont have enough to show yet with what they are getting into now.. I´d say give the people some more time I think next year will be much more interesting then the past one.. from us all....

I have Tiles site bookmarked and engraved on a piece of my furniture somewhere. His site, Clinton's site and emmanuel's are the major repositories of plugins and scripts.

I think Marcel's point is that we don't really have a single point of reference. Which is a fact.

The opportunities to create a single reference exist. I think that multiple repositories of scripts and plugins is a good idea just from a continuity perspective.

The issue of a single point of reference was suggested around the time of the califorum demise. A few of us tried to get a single dialogue with the key players to decide an achievable solution. Consensus could not be found because some of the players went their own route and others were too busy with other things.

Clinton has a wiki on his site waiting for people to start adding material. Personally I like the wiki format so when I find the time I will be putting material up there.

On the side note to this thread, I understand your frustration Tiles. This community has shrunk somewhat and the participation levels are lower. In addition to the fact that there are fewer of us a number of us are overwhelmed with personal or work commitments that are keeping us from our art.

I am a great example of this myself.

This does not mean that we stop looking at what you, and others, are doing but I am limited in my opportunities to jump on to these forums just to have a look.

I have gone a number of weeks without reading what is here or skimming the headlines. This does not mean I don't value the SMC and MMC posts. I am just totally occupied with other issues at that time. So I usually miss the voting by a couple of days.

I am very hopeful that I can pick up again mid-January and I will ask Steinie for a wip thread so I can post some work here.

Have a good holiday all and I look forward to the New Year.

Thinking off the top of my head here...
We should make it a 'programmer's requirement', so to speak, to add the new item to at least one of the
repositories: Emmanuel's, or Clinton's, or Steinie's, or trueBlue's, when we post a final package. If we can post a script/plugin here, we can do the same at the repositories. Maybe that is already being done? It probably is.

I think it is possible to 'link' one website to another - a user posts a script/plugin here, and it is automatically linked to the 'repository' website. I do not know the internals of that though. Some way to automate the process of adding scripts/plugins to repositories. <probably too much work; maybe not worth the effort>

Better, simpler idea:
How about an 'Alert' thread here that contains posts about newly added scripts plugins:

Example title: Scripts/Plugins Alerts

Example entry:

Dec. 20 2010: Clinton has added his Workspace nurbs curve script to the Clintonman website. Click here to get it.

Just some ideas.

Yeah, trueBlue has an all-in-one install package he created some time ago. Perhaps it needs to be updated with the newer items?

I will add a new thread to the plugin / scripts area.

Maybe the first thing we can do is to add all the links listed in this thread on the weblink page of the forum as i said a few week ago.
@ Rayman: don't worrie I think to finish my movie very soon and i think to begin a very different work next year. ;)

Good idea marcel.
Just looked at the web links link on the front page of this forum. Hm. Kinda tiny. It would be better to
give that area more visibility. I would even suggest, adding it to one of the banners we have. I never notice that little itty bitty tiny text: Web Links

On that page, there are only 4 links:

1) Steinie's
2) Lundadude
3) Truespaceplugins
4) Truesource shop

We need at least links for:

Tiles's site
Clinton's site
TrueBlue's site
Dele's site (lots of good scripting stuff there)
Emmanuel's site

Others as well

Doesnt change the fact though realy that we are at an end of a development here and that the site hasnt found any new identity......
Something that I´ve warned here very often in the past.
The end of Truespace shouldnt be the end of this site or this community......
The people that are migrating to other software should
report about any experiences they make and we need a growing space devoted to development of other
software plugins

Thats this Truespace cool and everything else accepted thing that should change into a
art -as such-cool with anything you have thing.......

I think all this talk truespace is dead is crap, its still the best modling app out there
and its free ,no one can remove it from your pc .and all the other apps support the
import and export from truespace.
Its so easy to model with it not like other apps ,blender a nightmare for most peple to learn
max maya to expensive for the most, carrera hard to learn modling good for render
vue awsome app for scens no modling . I dont care what anyone says ts is still the best
and with all the plugins it just gets easier to model what ever you want,to render what
you make just export to other apps

when I look at a painting, I do not ask me, with what brush the painting was done. I like the result and nothing else. I wonder about the reason, purpose, etc ...

The computer world is very childish. people are like children who throw their toys broken or abandoned for a newer. they take no time to enjoy because they are obsessed with being on top. What good can it serve when you do nothing? I have no difficulty in following the progress and i like that but I'm tired of people running non-stop to catch a moving train without taking the time to look around them.

I have noticed one important thing: people often ask you "how" you did that, never "why". It sums the situation.

Well, the why is most of the times obviously visible. That`s what the picture expresses. And there is no need for more "why" questions when the picture is well done.

But by being an 3D artist i have another look at the things too. I`m not only interested in the content of a picture, but also in the technical side. And that`s the how. So no wonder that you get asked a "How?" more often here. It`s an artist`s board :)

Content and technical are important. What i said is 3d artist's board must be more "why" than "how". If not it is only a 3d's board for student. with "why" i mean i try to understand the goal of an artist and share idea. It is more important for me than how he do his work. That is only my point of view. It is why the kind of software have no importance for me without idea to share. It is that kind of detail that do a good forum.

I hear you. But a 3D board is no 3D galery. And United 3D Artists even lacks of a galery section.

A 3D board is traditionally more towards the technical aspect. That`s where you discuss about the how to`s. As told, here at this board you will find more people that are interested into the technical part, not so much the content part. This counts for nearly all 3D boards out there. Even the big ones. For discussions about the content part you need other places. That`s for me for example the game portal pages, because i make games :)

no problem prugman. I like to use TS as you. and i think a soft is not dead if you use it. My interest is to see what people do. that's all. ;)
If this forum is towards the technical aspect and don't show wip not only technical but to share idea with TS and especially with other software then the forum is dead for me. even if i use TS for most of my work. i know well TS and i am not waiting only about technic with TS and i prefer to share idea that can be used with the software you want. Wip with other software is the only way for the future of this forum if most of people think the technical aspect is more important. And i continue to think that share idea is more important. not the software. At least for a long-term.

It is why most of people who prefer creation than technic leave the forum. Even if they use another software they could stay to share idea. it always starts like this then there is nobody.

this topic could have been called "forum update " :)

I am not helping maintain U3DA because of my love of trueSpace. I visit and submit artwork here because of our shared interest of 3D Art, the amazingly friendly user base here, the various degrees of specialized talent which we graciously share, and of course a common love affair with a program we all admired through the years....trueSpace.
What is important is our work not the programs we use to create it.
If trueSpace still works for you then use it. (I do) There is no hidden agenda here where we pound you into submission until you must sell your soul, offering your first male born to the Caligari gods, to join our ranks of devotees.
I love the fact that others here share there plugin work with us. They don't have to do that.
Fact one: There is no shared Gallery here but instead each user has their own.
Fact two: Some of the users mentioned DO still visit here but for personal reason have decided to not submit artwork. I believe they will in the future.
Fact three: We are not less an artist when we use trueSpace to create our work. For a new user it would certainly be an uphill battle and probably unwise to start.
Fact four: Do numbers of users here more important then how many here are valuable, friendly and helpful?
Happy Holidays to a GREAT group of friends!

I agree with you Steinie. Software that we use, number of users, technical or artistic, fun or serious is not important if we continue to share with passion, humor and cordiality. It's the mix that maintains the activity.

Ahh Haaa!!! I knew there was a hidden ajenda.. ;)
Either your a Spacer or 3d null object.. I see how you guys are.. :D

Seriously though... I use TrueSpace becouse I like it.. As a modeler
I think it compares pretty favorably to most other apps out there..
And with the great people working on plugins and intigration with other
render engines... I think this old app has a lot of life left in her..

As for this comunity.. It is one of the best friendltest and helpfull 3d forums around :bananaclaus:

Cheers!!!

I would hate to see anything happen to this website. I consider most of you friends, eventhough I will never meet any of you. Ok now that the mushy is out of the way.

I use TS as my main modeler. I still find it to be the eaisest to use as compared to others out there. TS may be an aging program, but to me it is still very valid with the toolset that it has. It would be nice to see a TS 8, but we all know that is not going to happen. I have had Blender on my computer for a while and I still have not gotten around to using it yet. TS is just an old friend I can't leave behind.

No not a TS8.
7.61B8 has serious flaws underneath so we are hampered.
Long story short, as I understand, someone used the wrong cement recipe in the foundation, providing a serious design flaw which could not be undone: Hey! Let's put the interface in the scene graph! Absolutely Brilliant! Ummmm.... no... that didn't work out so well. There's your delays and stuff. I wouldn't know whether to make that decision either but apparently it was the wrong decision.

No worries though. Oh man here come those guys in the black suits with the dark sunglasses and that funny little magic wand again... not that I remember what that means or anything... :ugeek:
