Cannot apply a BVH motion file to a skeleton

Post by Animagition »

Hi everyone,

I am kind of new to truspace 7.6, and I have a question regarding the import of BVH motion files.

After I select a IK skeleton in the scene, how do I import and apply a BVH motion file to that skeleton ? When the import process is finished, what I get is a new skeleton, slightly different than the one I had selected originally (i.e. the fingers and toes), with the motion file applied to it. But I need that motion to be applied to my own skeleton.

How do I do that ?

Thanks.

Hi Animagition,

The .bvh file. has basically two main parts...The hierachy breakdown of the skeletal system used by motion capturing proces, and the actual coordinates of the individual movements.

This means, there is already the certain skeletal system saved within your imported file.
This is also, why you get a new skeleton, which is different than the one you had selected originally when importing bvh files into tS.
In order to be able to use that system your character rig should match it's structure and naming convention. Then you should be able to copy animation tracks from imported .bvh file.

There are also some worthwhile hints on Caligari forums. Here are just two of them:
