trueSpace Petition - Needs your support

Post by trueBlue »

Open Source Truespace!

Published June 18, 2009

This petition is to urge Microsoft to liberate the source code of Truespace, the 3d design software developed by Caligari. We, the Truespace community, feel that it's not only the right thing to do but also that it's a good course of action for Microsoft to take. By liberating the source code Microsoft will be insuring the survival of the Truespace Community and they will also be insuring the continued development of Truespace's code base, of which Microsoft can reuse in their applications. Please Microsoft do the right thing and liberate the source code.

Maybe it's being hosted on a government run website.

Yes. Petition useless.

This reminds me of the recent unhappiness with changes to the comment system on Youtube. Google owns Youtube and changed the comment system to include Google+ things and changed the way it works. It stinks, terrible. Commenters began a campaign to use a stick figure character named "Bob" in comments to get Google to put the old comment system back. Bob began to appear everywhere. Result? Bob now appears nowhere and the new comment system remains. Maybe Google made a filter to remove Bob or comments with him in them.

And then there was that petition to deport piers morgan ... too bad petitions are useless.

If you want something there are several effective ways to get it. Create it. Take it (by force). Buy it. These are the most effective.

How do you pitch a desire to buy property of Microsoft?

Does anyone work inside Microsoft perchance? ;)

Start by prowling the Microsoft website for contact information. Find some office that seems half-way appropriate and start there.

Petitions can be fun!

Oh, I don't know if it's so terrible; after the change using either AdBlock or NoScript or the combination of them has resulted in ALL the comments being blocked.
Peace in our time. They're still viewable if you really want to read them, but it takes effort.
Now that's the kind of change I was hoping for.

Note youtube stores cookies in 4 different places. Why are they trying so hard to hide? That's the citizen's job! Crunch them while you can because you can bet they're working on an undetectable, undeletable flavor.

Looks like we can try another petition on the same site. Whether this one will work is open I guess. I'll look in to starting a new one if I can figure out all the relevant information. My modeling forum has a feature to post a link on my Twitter account under the user nick TSModman, so I can post a link to any action we might want to attempt as far as a petition about TS. Any thoughts about whether it might do any good? Leroy.

Scoured a little, and since I'm in Colombia, there is one office. I might go visit one day. But.. one would think there would be more opportunity the closer you are to Redmond, USA??

Yes indeed. The cesspool of comments almost anywhere does not improve my opinion of mankind. However, I have found comments are good to mine for things to put on T-Shirts!
