Post by Steinie »

I wonder if they still have the program?

A cheap option for someone knowing Chinese then? Because the site appear to be in Chinese.
(and I already have Caligaris mangled version of Vray so I don't need to buy it but I need to learn how to use it.... )

Even if you bought it, it can't be registered. You can't get a license transfer, either.

Somebody at ms wanted vray deader than dead...........

I don't remember registering my VRay and I know there is no serial number for it. Any updates are history. It is a dead piece of software that still works great combined with workSpace. (without talking about the glass bug). workSpace and VRay should have always been together from the start. It makes using the program so much better.

no need to registered. If you have the install file you can use vray in another computer even if the soft is not in the market. No serial number.
ps: for those who have buy VRay, the last version was 1.53 and there is a 1.53 patch for TS 7.61 from Caligari forum. Don't forget to keep these 2 files.
Steinie: sure that vray is the best render engine for the workspace because it is integrated into TS as ligthwork is integrated with the modelside. You can use the same material editor and it is why Vray is a useful render engine for TS.

If I had the chance to buy VRay again I would do it.(assuming I didn't own it now)
I think at one time Mark might have been selling his. If you can get a bargain get it! Just be careful and trust the person selling it to you. They might resell it multiple times illegally. There is no license that says I cannot sell my copy of VRay. There is a License that says I cannot sell my copy of trueSpace 7.0 etc...(even if today it is free)

Maybe I'm wrong, but I recall that this was discussed on the last forum and we were told that vray licenses definitely weren't transferable.

I guess you could argue that the chances of getting in trouble, now that the app is officially dead, are remote. However, MS have been complete tools regarding TS so far, and Caligari started the whole non-transferable license stupidity with TS7, so who knows?
