Vray materials

Post by dani100185 »

Hello,i've been working for few mounts with Ts 7.51 and Vray and i cant get make a material for glass and metal.I tried for glass the fresnel material and the glass material and did not manage to make a glass for a window(it comes all dark) and the reflective metal has a problem with reflectance(in never looks like aluminum).
Can u help me pls.

well its hard to tell whats wrong... but you have to have some proper lighting setup. HDRI or just LDRI enviromnent would be great to try. Do you have transparent shadows on in Vray setup? raytracing or something... I think its only something small you dont have turned on. Aluminium si better to build using standard caligari phong shader. You need a little difuse to make it look like aluminium.

I tried evry type of lighting, for example take 1 scene with V-ray,GI turn on with high quality and hemisamples raised to 50,also from v-ray transparent shadows and soft shadows, and for lighting i use a simple local light with raytrace and transparent shadows.
If u want to help me pls. ad a scene with 2 spheres one with glass and one with some kind of metal.
10X a lot for the support

i will be home in 2-3 hours, then I will add a scene or object with shader set... btw you could show us some wrong render you made. To see how it looks like.

that looks wierd. maybe you should reinstall ts or vray. Because it shows wierd in the mat editor window aswell. So check if you have ray limit low, raytracing on, render quality to high etc.

so check out my sample scene. From left to right - glass, chrome, aluminium (maybe it should be a little lighter, it was fast)

they do work :D your materials are good the only problem is that they don't work with GI turned on.Without GI and using hdri they work perfectly.
So 10x a lot for your time and help :D

well it should work with gi and hdri... the sample image i rendered is with these things on. just make sure you have turned off the "use only envr. lights" checker and replace hdri map with some yours. But the materials are not perfect, aluminium needs tweaking alot.

what is wierd is that in your image, the material preview doesnt show transparency at the glass. Anyway its good that you can continue your work. Then show us the result ;)

Good luck.

This in the render in witch i needed the metal and glass,i have GI on very high with around 60 hemisamples soft shadow and 2 local lights. As u can see on the chair in front and the white table that was suposed to be some kind of metal, but it looks like a shiny white thing.I love truespace but some times in not dependable and as an interior designer in my renders material are very important.

if you want alluminium material... maybe you should use the conductor (with minimum reflection) or glossy shader which could provide good aluminium soft reflections.

Anyway, your render looks really cool!

ps: vray 1.5.2 for ts7.51 has a glass shadow bug... it doesnt calculate shadows through glass like it should. You should know if you havent already noticed.
