Old Tutorials Not Playing Through to the end
Hi, I got these yesterday from the old forum "new user" area "truespace for dummies" thread. I replied there but it's an old thread and don't know if MrBones will see it. Had a bit of trouble playing the videos. When I played them there was no sound and they all stopped playing even when the playbar still showed about 75% left to reach the end. The downloads for two of them were close to 80MB, the other was 14MB, so I think I'm missing the rest of the playback somehow. MrBones, or anyone tried playing these before? Maybe my download got interrupted or something. From just watching the beginning they look very useful & I'd like to get the full versions. Thanks in advance!

Re: Old Tutorials Not Playing Through to the end
Hi Musikman,
When you copied the list of mrbone's TrueBones links from the Caligari "New Users" forum, all you copied was the text---not the links, themselves. Our forum software here automatically senses a URL and creates a link from it but this didn't work for the first link in your copied text because it had been abbreviated with the "..." in the middle. Since it wasn't complete it doesn't work.
The complete URL for the first tutorial is: http://www.truebones.com/Tutorials/basi ... brarys.zip"
Note: This forum's software automatically abbreviates long URLs also. To see the entire address, hover your mouse over the link and read the full URL on the link info line of your browser (the bottom message area of Internet Explorer).
It's important to test your links when you create a new post. Using the "Preview" button on the "Post a reply" form will enable you to do this before you "Submit" your post.
Best regards, First Light

Re: Old Tutorials Not Playing Through to the end
Hmmm, didn't realize that, sorry
, thanks for noticing that First Light, & I'll be sure to preview before posting next time. Still not sure why none of them played all the way through & had no sound, even the other two, & I downloaded all three of them directly from the post in the old forum. Guess I'll have to try re-downloading them all again tomorrow & see if anything might have went wrong during the first time I downloaded.

Re: Old Tutorials Not Playing Through to the end
Hello again,
I'll give them a try but it won't be for a few days. I live in a rural area and can't get a high-speed internet connection. I'm forced to use a mid-speed satellite connection. Besides the awful propogation delay, I'm limited to 1.5 GB per month and I've just about reached my limit with all of the recent trueSpace and trueSpace training downloads. So I'm having to wait a bit or I'll exceed the "fair use" provisions of the system. Uuug!
Reading the description of the tutorials, it appears that they are flash videos. The first thing I would check is whether or not your browser has the latest Adobe Flash plugin. If not, download and install the latest one from http://www.adobe.com" . You might also try a different browser or a different browser version. If you're using IE8 then you might try the compatibility mode that mimicks IE7.
Best regards, First Light

Re: Old Tutorials Not Playing Through to the end
Hi First Light. Thanks for being willing to try them, there's really no hurry, I appreciate it, and if you really don't have the time don't worry about it, I'm sure I'll get it figured out eventually.
Sucks about your internet connection, that would drive me nuts! You probably only have to download & try one as a test, since all of them were not running properly. Usually if there is an incompatable version of the flash or media player, a message prompts you to upgrade or lets you know it can't be played with that version or type of player. I didn't get any error messages, and have been able to play just about every other video from the forum, so I'll look into it further as well. Thank you very much for your help & suggestions!
(I think I am using IE7 already)
Best Regards,
Paul

Re: Old Tutorials Not Playing Through to the end
Hi Musikman,
I was near a wifi hot spot last night so I downloaded all three of the TrueBones tutorials and tried to run them. I had the same problem. I'm using IE8 with the latest Flash plugin (version 10). Plus I'm running XP SP3.
The first tutorial (basicstartandlibrarys.swf) ran for only a few seconds and then froze after playing less than 10% of the content. When it froze, the "Play" and "Pause" buttons of the Flash player would no longer function.
The second tutorial (sasdasda.swf) ran a little longer and and froze after playing about 25% of the content. The Flash player controls were again frozen.
The third tutorial (physmoverecord.swf) played all the way. It never froze.
None of the tutorials appear to have sound.
Each tutorial seemed to download fine. Each file appeared to be the correct size and there was no problem expanding the zip files. Either the first two files have been corrupted on the TrueBones server or something else is wrong. Since none of them appear to have sound, I think they are unfinished. It's too bad.

Re: Old Tutorials Not Playing Through to the end
Hi FL
Thank you for testing those files for me.
I re-downloaded last night and got the same exact results that you did. (First two froze, no sound, the third played through)
I've been playing various other swf files using the old/new MP Classic most of the time, and have not had problems with swf's.
BTW, do you know of an rar unzip utility that is free and not a limited trial version? All I have is winzip and it won't open rar's, which some of the tutorials and stuff here on the forum are compressed with.
Thanks FL,
Musikman

No, I don't know of any free "rar" expanders. I'm sure they're out there, though. I use WinZip 11.1. It's not the latest version but it can handle "rar" files with no problem. You might consider upgrading your copy of WinZip so you'll have the capability, too. I like WinZip a lot and it lets me create self-extracting "exe" files. Having one good program that does it all is nice. Plus, it hooks into Windows very well.

Re: Old Tutorials Not Playing Through to the end
Hey Steinie
Thanks for the tip on the free program....looks like the reviews are very good.
Any thoughts on MrBones' tutorials not playing (above)? So far he hasn't showed up & from the brief peek I was able to get, they seem to be very good tutorials, subjects not entirely covered in the manual or other videos.
Best Regards,
Musikman
