Re: Song Of The Day
That above song is the bane of my work place. Have you ever tried to empty plates, dishes and clean down food stackers and torlleys with that sound track. I feel like I'm in a Disney Hat dance sketch. I've discovered a musical term used to narrow viewers into a sound that appeals to his or her demographic by surrounding that by things that are deemed 'awful'
It's called radio Don't listen to 'heart FM' people in the UK, I can give you the playlist that plays every day
Lady Gaga
Black Eyed peas, I gotta feelin'
Back to lady gaga
The wanted All time low
Some 80s 'Yea girl we're soulful because we yell something to a tinny keyboard'
Beyonce
Back to Ladyboy gaga again
Journey Don't stop believing
We speak no Americano
This on the other hand:

One of my top concerts is with Laurie Anderson in the 1980:ies. It was fantastic with it's visual effects and music. I hope she will come back to Sweden, Gothenborg some time but I doubt. Instead I will go to a concert with Pink Floyd (The Wall with Roger Waters) in May 2011 in Stockholm. My son will follow (he is 17 years old and I am satisfied that he likes Pink Floyd too. It means that we have a common interest) I think its the last tour with Pink Floyd, sadly enough. I miss the era with symphonic rock like bands like Pink Floyd, Camel, Kebnekaise http://www.kebnekajse.se/" (a swedish band, my favorite band when I was a teenager), Mike Oldfield, Tangerine Dream and so on.

I have to do some promotion for my favourite band Kebnekajse (Kebnekajse is the highest mountain i Sweden about 2117 meters depending on the icelayer on the top) In the seventies this was my favorite band, and still are. They used the old swedish folkmusic and made into a modern style. I liked it because it was against the massive impact from American and English music.

I think the difference between "those days" and today is that at that time everything was possibly. There was just a trust in that everything could been fixed if we were united. Nowadays it's all about destroying the environment in our world. The future is not so bright anymore.

Sorry Tommy, but I think you have it exactly backwards.
The possibilities and opportunities are greater now for more people than ever before.
A 2010 model automobile is far more efficient and runs cleaner than any 1970 model, as does the factory that produces it and the power plant that energizes it.
Advances in computers, robotics, medicine and genetic studies have improved and will continue to improve the human condition.
Don't be so glum, chum!

Hello spacekadet!!
Thanks for your comment about my opionion about the future.
Maybee it's that I was young in the 70:thies and had all my future ahead. There was a movement in sweden that everything that is going to be better in the future. Everone should take care of each other in a bright future. No discussion about global heating. The life was all fun.
I'm now living in a society that sick people can't get support from the society for their living as before. We have a much higher unemployment as in the 70:thies. The young people can't get jobs and the old poeple has to work longer for their pensions. In the future we have to lower our loved western livings standard because the rest of the world also have to a decent living standard.
But in the end I am optimistic. The future will be more peaceful because of internet and communities like this there people from all over the world communicates in an open mind and gets a personal connection beetween each other.

Not long after I posted yesterday the doorbell rang.
A Boy Scout was there selling, you guessed it, popcorn as a fundraiser activity.
Lucky for both of us it was payday.
PS
Amazon.com's 'free song of the day' yesterday was by Trapt.
(Former lead guitar player: Simon Ormandy, son of that other famous Ormandy.)
I'm sure Kevin Bacon fits in here somehow.
PPS:
This day in 1976 sure was weird when this made it to #1 on the music charts:

its no wonder us oldies are so feck up really
Two songs I loath with a passion from that era are Love is in the Air John Paul Young and Oops Upside Your Head the Gap Band.
Radio Tees must of had shares in Love in in the Air as it seemed to be on every ten minutes, and I'd just started working for the boss from hell, the Gap Band was the song that got stuck in my head the first time I got drunk ..
You can't beat the sixties, 70's and early 80's for fun, bizzare music, something that's lacking now

Another one from 1976; today is the date of a plane crash that took the lives of several band members.
I'm partial to this song as well:

Finis this is a delicate matter about fredoom.
As a reply to you post about freedom: Fredoom, in my opion, is also to take care of the poor of my country or other people of the earth. I live in a country with almost the highests taxerates in the world and I think this is good because with these high taxes I pay goes to the poor people so they can get a desant living. To get peace in the world is not with military forces but to instead to put the money to get the womans and the male to a better education, health care and everyday living easier.
I have to say that this is my opinion!!!!!!

Re: Song Of The Day
Tommy I'm reading Social Contract (a political trait about freedom, society, oppression, etc) from Jean-Jacques Rousseau, he was one of the formers of the French Revolution (Liberté, égalité, fraternité). And his ideas are really interesting and you should (if you didn't yet) read that, some of your ideas are somehow similar to his.
I agree that high taxerates are important for distribute wealth in our world today, with this system we have today, however it shouldn't be like that at all... but due to human behavior it is that way, in an utopic anarchism people with high concepts would spontaneously help each other for an greater good, also being human, it would know about the human existence and how important is to provide to EACH one, regardless to any other factor, an human has the right of receive it's basics needs, and in an state that some don't and other do in excess something is not right.
Brazil has high taxerates but due to bad administration and corruption it is just another kind of theft, and in a country with high inequality as mine, just because 1% of the population controls about 50% of fertile land and all of this because of the system that a lot of people agreed that is the ''right type of freedom'' and the ''free market'' is freedom, it's just like. What I see all around it's just the annihilation of human beings by the system, although while someone is annihilated another is provided with more than he needs, Brazil has everything to everybody, but some people wants more than they should. First we need to provide sub-existence to all at least and then by the individual valor those should receive some ''bonus'', however not to brake the cycle in the next generation should be provided equal ''opportunities'' so the sons of those that won the bonus don't have some kind of advanced opportunities, but it goes against somekind of freedom, because when you make opportunities equal for all so then they can by themselves try to be the best, just looking for the bonus. I've just lost my line of thought it went to a communist state, something I hate.
Anyway, the equality of opportunities is the key, when it depends just on your will, and not on the luck of being born, or because you live near some good school, etc. Then you are able to do your best.
For me the ideal state is the anarchy, however as I said we just CAN'T have that, and probably won't have never, because the level of understanding people need to reach are so high that the society limits itself. And individual experiences won't ever be the same, and however we being equal by nature (on most cases) we aren't the same after we live our life, and that's slight or big difference makes what humanity are, but even sounding fascist... there's some characteristics of human beings that should be avoided for goodness of humanity, and that's the militarism, fascism (contradictory '-'), racism and excluding or harming ideologies and behaviors.
Anyway if you read all of what I said you can see I didn't knew I was talking about, I was just creating the idea while I write, so it sounds still rough.

I'm not being funny guys, I understand what you're saying but how in the world do we manage to launch topics so far off track in the matter of one or two comments like this? It's always the fun little topics that get hit by something political/socialogical/idealogical/religious or otherwise
Can we have just one topic to derail?

Re: Song Of The Day
Jean Jaques Rosseau planted the thoughts of the french revolution. With the technology with Gutenbergs invention of the printing press Rosseaus thoughts were possible to spread through the French community despite that his books were forbidden in France.
The internet is as same great invention as Gutenbergs printing press. I think the internet is the greatest invention to get peace, education and in the future health care. People from all over the world communication with each other and relaise that we all have the same needs and thoughts about freedom. I do realise that not everybody has this oppurtunity to do this: There are a lot too poor people in the world who biggest problem is to stay alive the next day.
I believe that in the future there will be more understanding beetween peoples. This community is an example of this. I discuss my opinions with peoples all over the world. The young people are used to this, For example my son are communicating with youths all over the world. This will give understanding of other cultures.
And the big issue is to make the earths natural resourses to sustain a decent living standard to the people of the earth.
The song og the day is this (one of my favorites):

I not only loved that song but I also loved Kodachrome !
While other color films would fade away Kodachrome still lasted and the dyes of the colors didnt fade.
Funny that you point us to the song now since Kodak closed the last processing facility this month and the last roll that was
returned in for processing was in August 2010
see this news.....
And here also a picture on Kodachrome from myself when i was about 11 years old in Boston Mass. (1972 one year before the song was written)... the dyes are still good...

As a teacher this is my favourite song of today
A comment to the video. (Ins my opinion Pink Floyd: The Wall is the greatest music video every done.) I have the aim to have the pupils to think for themselves whats good, bad for themselfes and the society. I think whats why I like this video´. The peupils who are against the one way learning from the teacher to the pupils. I believe that's it's important that our young people can make desicions that can do a better would in the future and can protest against decisions made by the gouvernment if these feels wrong to the ordinary people.

Re: Song Of The Day
I agree with you Tommy, I won't make a long reply because you know... here isn't the best place for discuss politics and others members don't like politics being discussed here (and they are right).
Anyway I know how is the feel of being in a politically apathetic society (mine is) and this song is like an anthem against apathy.
I really like the quality of songs being put here! Most of them are from the 60's and 70's, that era were really an explosion of creativity anyway I think today there is less creative songs than before but they are still there =)
By the next week I'll post songs of nowadays Bands that I like.

Re: Song Of The Day
Leonregis: My intention was not to be political in my comments to "The wall" and the song.
I have realised that this forum is not the forum for discuss political matters. It was just an explination of I beeing a teacher and also love this song. But if my students would act as the student in the last part of the video I would bee very angry and disapponted of them.
I think the 60:ies and 70:ies was the era when the exploration of the new sound of pop and rock was blooming in all direction. There was Beatles, Rolling stones, Led Zeppelin. Mike Oldfield, Tangerine dream, Camel, ABBA and so on with different music styles that I find not exits today.
