Toon Edge or u | v toon

Post by Rhino169 »

I am working in 6.6 and am trying to use either Toon Edge .tsx or the uvtoon shader.

The Toon Edge, tsx appears to work fine. I click on an object, apply the plugin and the object appears with a thick outline but when I render it, the object renders as if I never applied it. Then when I return back to the non-rendered screen, it is back the the thick outline. Does anyone have this .tsx working properly?

Next I try to use the u|v toon shader. I apply it from the reflectance portion of the material editorto a sphere, but nothing happens to the object like when I normally apply a new color or texture. Then when I try to render it, it render up to that object and gets stuck and says "calculating" at the bottom. I then have to force TS to close. Does anyone have this shader working properly.

Thanks for any help. :bananaguitar:

Just tried toonup from the coolpowers 3 pak and that works pretty well.

I still ultimately would like the u|v toon shader to work if possible.

Yes, from my experience, u|v toon is the most reliable edge/toon shader.

Finally got u|v toon shader to work properly. Not sure what I did, but it work fine now. :bananahi:

I do like the look of the results and controls of u|v toon shader better than Toon edge.

but..... I do like being able to use the toon edge post production window that way it keeps the materials applied to my scene as they are and produces a toon view port window but those results are not as good as u|v toon shader.

With u|v toon shader, you have to apply to the objects directly which means I have to save my pre-made scene as a copy and then render it after applying the shader to all the objects.

Yes, this means you need to have two versions of your scene or two versions of each of your objects : one with the original shaders and one with the u|v toon shaders.

This remainds me DD's project for an Xref plugin...
Now I realize that an Xref feature with options to switch or select the source of the external reference could be very handy in such a situation.
DD... Are you reading ? ;)
