This forum is called united3D artists so why dont we all get together and make a short film.
we have people here who are good with figure modling (cartoon or lifelike), some are good with houses and scenes
others are good with texturing rendering and others good rigging and animation.
we could set up a thread just for this and show the progress of modeling or pass the model
onto the next person to better it and so on with every thing .
I think a project together would bring us closer together and we all could learn somthing and it would be fun.
no time limit we all work on it when we have the time. And when i said all i ment all .
What do you think.
Ralph

I'd be interested in doing a colab game, pre rendered rather than 3D. something on the lines of Mystery Case Files or Myst.. it be a lot easier to teach some to do programming with a pre rendered game, theres still animation for characters, cut scenes, scene building, props etc
Or a 3D Monkey Island type game?

Or a 3D Monkey Island type game?
I must of missed that oneWe asked a year ago who wanted to contribute .....

It sounds nice! However, if such a project is going to get started, it should be clear what it is going to be. Many here do animations and nearly all of us are modelers. And even though some of you do have game projects going, (me included) I think that would be a bad idea since there are way to many things involved when making a game: design document, concept art, possible storyboards for cut-scenes, not to mention a good story.
That being said, I would love to work on this project if it was a small animated movie or something like that. It's just a question of time really and how many here are willing to spend time on such a project.

Managing expectations on a group project staffed by volunteers is the key to establishing lasting participation.
The M1n3r project that Rayman is referring to in his post is based on a concept presented by Dragneye. It is the space story that he described in his post regarding the 3 storylines.
Briefly. we are all working with different tools for modeling and textures. The target environment for the final render is Vue. We are working toward a high degree of realism for the final piece.
We are building a futuristic cityscape based on the concept of a world completely built over by mankind. The only evidence of nature exists in large conservatories in some of the major cities (picture a modern zoo).
The cityscape buildings and accessories are a major component of the project.
The other major setting is.... space. The 2 major sets are a space race and the miner ship and associated space battle.
The next major component is the character work. There are 3 characters with speaking parts in the short,,, the hero and a mother and child duo. We will need some supporting character models for the civilians in the city that will be populated through the city using Vue instancing.
We have team meetings once or twice a week using Skype voice.
The main objective of the project is developing our skills and having as much fun as we can doing it.
Anyone interested please make it known here and we can add you to the project team asap.
