Where can I get V-Ray for TS and is it free? Price? And more
I have quite a few questions about V-Ray, because I never had it yet as a Truespace Renderer, so...
1. Where can I get V-Ray for Truespace? (I searched the net all over, and couldn't even find it at the old Caligai website and forums, or the official VRay site. I did see Vray for Maya though)
2. Is it free or does it come at a price?
3. Is it capable of rendering only on the modeler side of TS or both the modeler and the workspace?
4. If there is a price for buying V-Ray for TS, what is the price?
Note: Please provide links if possible. Thank you, and sorry i'm asking so much here in one post, I guess i'm not the best at doing anything real great in any modeling package, but I know a lot of others here have made amazing things in Truespace, even with older versions.
Thanks again!

I don't know much, but as I know V-ray is not available anymore and when was it have a cost if I remember well was US$ 299,00 I could be wrong, but I think is it. Now just by illegal means you can have it.

Re: Where can I get V-Ray for TS and is it free? Price? And more
Correct!
VRay for trueSpace has been discontinued.
If you like to use the Modeler Side then Lightworks is excellent.
I notice that the pole list "Dribble" as a renderer which is not correct.
Dribble allows trueSpace to use the "3Delight" renderer.
I would suggest starting with Lightworks. Most of the Gallery over the years
used that Renderer.
I still think workSpace in realtime is great. Someone on this Forum stated they
would sell their VRay as I recall.
Yafaray is way under utilized so far. Many of us want to try it soon. I'm sure once we
tame it fantastic renderers will appear. Someone is working on a car with very nice results.
I never liked Virtual Light for some reason. Hey it's free.
Kerkythea is a freestanding renderer with fantastic results and it is Free too! Check out Rayman's tutorial here.

Re: Where can I get V-Ray for TS and is it free? Price? And more
Oh, sorry about that Steinie, and everyone who votes in my poll here, I thought that since it was in the Rendering forum category here, that it was a renderer for Truespace, not something like a renderer helping kind of thing. I feel so confused now that you told me Dribble is something to let you use a certain renderer in TS. If only I could get my hands on V-ray for Truespace or Maya, but I checked the Vray official site, and it's over $800 for Vray for Maya. They didn't seem to sell it for Truespace there unfortunately.
Does anyone know how I can delete the "Dribble" non-renderer out of my poll? Thanks everyone for the heads up about Vray, and other renderers. I think I tried the Kerkythea renderer one time, but I don't know how to get any Truespace scene into it.

But how am I supposed to know who is a site administrator, since all the usernames are grey colored, just like the text at the bottom of the home page where it says Administrators?
I've also seen the word Global Moderators there listed in light blue.
Thanks for clearing that up Steinie and froo, plus everyone here who gave me the heads up on V-Ray.
Yeah! Eveyone, come on, vote... please.

Re: Where can I get V-Ray for TS and is it free? Price? And more
I voted for V-Ray... when I got V-Ray for trueSpace it totally transformed the quality of the renders I produced, which until I had V-Ray always seemed fine to me. V-Ray takes rendering to a whole new level for me.
Unfortunately though, as I posted in the "shared space thread" here in General, there is a distinct possibility I may be selling all my trueSpace 7.51 software, Caligari content "pak" CD's, boxed trueSpace 6.6 (like new, never even opened the manual, lol), as well as old versions of 4.3 and 1.0 soon. This is due to how long it is taking truePlay / trueServe to get properly developed for viable business usage (as described in detail in that thread).
So stay tuned... I may be selling one of the last available (or likely to be sold) copies of V-Ray for trueSpace (which works with trueSpace 7.51 which I will be selling as well as with the latest versions of trueSpace due to an upgrade patch which I downloaded from the cali forum and will include).
I will know pretty soon, a week or two I would say.
I will miss V-Ray a hell of a lot too, it is genuinely amazing.

The following pics should give you an idea of how well V-Ray performs in trueSpace even in the hands of someone with only a tiny bit of experience with it, these were made by me in V-Ray shortly after I had just bought it:

You know the poll doesn't list a DX Renderer which is on the workSpace side.
Another option that is used and becoming common place.
I really don't have a favorite but use the Rendering Engine that fits the project
WorkSpace side Cartooning = DX9
WorkSpace side fantastic realistic lighting = VRay
Modeler Side= Lightworks and Multipass rendering
Modeler Side= 3Delight/Dribble for displacement mapping, SSS and fur

Well, now that Jason solved the truePlay Wire Highlighting Bug, I am not going to be selling my trueSpace7.51 (and 6.6 and 4.3) package with V-Ray, now I will be using trueSpace in ways I never have before and with more dedicated energy than I ever put into it before. Sorry, but that truePlay bug was the one thing motivating me to bail out and now it is history.

3dvisuals dude, that is one amazing anatomicaly correct woman in your V-Ray render.
1. Did you model it yourself, and/or use a tutorial, or did you download a 3d human maker like MakeHuman?
2. Which side of TS did you render that blue ice-like woman in?
Just curious , since it looks soooo cool and realistic, like something I might find if there was a new Final Fantasy mini movie (but made in Truespace
).
About you selling all your Truespace stuff, and V-Ray... it's the thought that counts. I guess I don't need V-Ray, as long as I have LightWorks, which I voted for.

I would still be interested in buying truespace 4.3 and 6.0 if you don't need them. I also remember that the vray licenses weren't transferable, but I may be wrong.Well, now that Jason solved the truePlay Wire Highlighting Bug, I am not going to be selling my trueSpace7.51 (and 6.6 and 4.3) package with V-Ray, now I will be using trueSpace in ways I never have before and with more dedicated energy than I ever put into it before. Back OT, I voted for Dribble, but I can also recommend yafaray if you are looking for a vray substitute. It's the most promising open-source renderer I've used, very similar to Shade, which I also like. Perhaps a donation to the yafaray4ts project might be better in the long-term than buying a vray license?
Also, I think if we are talking about dribble not being a renderer, then by rights yafaray and virtual light aren't either, as both plug-in to external renderers via script as well. You could even make a case for vray, as it's a third-party plug-in, not integrated.
Anyway, I do agree that if you're not sure what to use then Lightworks is still very nice, perhaps still the best overall renderer for ts. It is also well documented, and there are heaps of shaders (including one for rendering GI) out there for it.

The female model was created in makeHuman, an older version which had character posing intact, like version 9.0 I think, and i think that version is still downloadable at SourceForge, and of course free.tamtam wrote:3dvisuals dude, that is one amazing anatomicaly correct woman in your V-Ray render.

I rendered it on workspace side of trueSpace7.51 in the workspace window using V-Ray for trueSpace.
The odd thing was (and pretty cool I think), that originally I was just trying to play with the new trueSpace Hair tools and that was my first attempt, which until I rendered it in V-Ray actually looked pretty bad, lol. But when i ran V-Ray on that hair it had a surprising effect, seemed to make the hair look like icicles were embedded in each strand, and I liked the effect so much that I then made it a night scene with an imported stars picture for a backdrop, changed her flesh texture to an icy cold look with slight ice gloss, changed the lighting to a moonlight, and voila! : )

Re: Where can I get V-Ray for TS and is it free? Price? And more
If I sold the entirety of my licensed trueSpace7.51 along with the V-Ray which was purchased with it and is bound together inherently by the same install serial number, then yes, i can transfer it if I chose to, but cannot legally retain any copies whatsoever. I won't be doing that now though, the truePlay Bug Fix resolved that issue for me completely. Since truePlay is now viable, which makes trueServe and content licensing for use with it viable, then I will retain the power of V-Ray for use in future shared space projects.Benji wrote:I would still be interested in buying truespace 4.3 and 6.0 if you don't need them. As for tS6.6, in my case anyway, the serial number necessary for install of my 7.51 and V-Ray is the same as my 6.6 Serial I think, and if so, they would all have to be sold together if they were to be sold at all, and no copies retained of course whatsoever.
On the matter of tS4.3, I have no idea on the nuances of transferring that, but will look into it more when I can. I have tS1.0 too, hehehe! My versions of 4.3 and 1,0 were downloads, but I believe i still have a boatload of plugins and the electronic manuals for both.
Sorry to get off topic though, so I will drop this for now.
I see that a lot of folks are into Lightworks in trueSpace, and I probably would have been among them but when I got involved in trueSpace the newest thing was V-Ray so I leaped onboard based on the enthusiasm of the Community toweard what was then the new renderer. Lightworks is awesome, as any study of Augusto's older renders will clearly show or any examination of the pre-2007 Caligari Galleries. I just didn't have the time to learn it, and in retrospect, I must admit... V-Ray made my stuff look better each time I used it with very little effort, and hey... I am lazy, lol!
