What do I have to do to correctly send my models to Vue?
I own Vue 7 Pro Studio and my models are from the workSpace side.
In Previous post here I have read that booleans are a mess.
Do I have to plan on re-texturing in Vue?
Objects that have been 3D Encapsulated should be handled how?
Use Froo's Object exporter?
3DEncapsulate everything first?
Send the scene back to Modeler and save as COBs?
Upgrade to Vue8...?
Please give me the full run down on my options.
What have you done in the past?

Re: trueSpace to Vue
let me start with saying that whenever possible try to use the Collada format from the workspace side because Truespace saves animations pretty well
and Vue starting with the version 7 can import those pretty well. Version 8 does that even better because it imports the skeletons and rigged characters
with character animations.I´ve tried lots of other applications and they dont import truespace collada as well. Only problem can be the textures. The UV mapping worked you might have to reload the maps with the Vue material editor. I would suggest you do your materials as much as possible in vue as the material editor is much more advanced but Uv´s are normally OK ! You can of course export with froo´s exporter it works very well with Vue I tested it when froo made it and
it also exports obj sequences but i wasnt lucky with that.... model side you can use all options that you have ... obj ..... cob .. 3ds....
2 things can be a problem but mostly arent thats holes and textures...... but in 95 % of the cases its not and you learn to avoid the problems.
I didnt have the boolean operation problems but you booleans with poly are always a problem. Steinie you got Moi3d if you want to make lots of use of booleans
you can make hundreds one on top of the other without any problems.
Encapsulating works but again you run into problems with the textures(not UV mapping)... just reload in Vue...
Heck textures dont even transfer to the model side ; )
animations works with encapsuling !
I will show you some examples !

Re: trueSpace to Vue
Here is a short test that i exported for you with collada from the Truespace samples from the library with physics
I encapsulated in 3d and what you see in the first video is that it then applies single texture for every object and you have to reload the textures inside
Truespace one by one from the folder.... which normally isnt a big deal because your going to tweak the materialsproperties anyhow.
in the second video you see it fixed it took 3 minutes...
Its tankgirl... I left the cube away that she is pushing.....
What Wizard says in that text I can fully underline model without any cliches and you wont have any problems even with booleans ...
Here is a textured sphere from which I boolean subtracted A and B both boolean and texture work .... it was exported with collada..

Re: trueSpace to Vue
Thanks guys for your help. I will read your information and do some testing.
Based on Wizard's statements he uses Luvv to export as an Obj from the Modeler
side and Rayman uses the collada format from the workSpace side. Can collada be used
for non animation work? ( I believe your example is illustrating that)

Yes it can ! If you guys download the file you will see 2 videos one before and one after I reloaded the textures when exporting 3d encapsulated.Steinie wrote: Can collada be used

You see how rigged characters with physics are also exported.... !
