"Other Applications" Forum
Let me start off by saying I don't want to turn this forums focus away from trueSpace. I think it would help people who use other applications with trueSpace. Some examples would be programs like Zbrush, Vue, Mudbox, and Hexagon. If we have one forum area for people that have these programs we might be able to help each other with the work flow in between these programs and trueSpace.

Re: "Other Applications" Forum
It's important that we transition to a more general 3D community instead of a trueSpace community anyway. I'm not sure we really need to divide the community by application though.

Re: "Other Applications" Forum
That is a very good point Jack. We can keep our great community even if we expand into using other 3d programs. Some of the other 3d communities, I won't mention names, really just turn me off while Caligariforums has always been excitting, new, friendly etc..
Not sure how to work the different programs into some of the categories but for instance the SMC maybe later can be expanded into using any 3d program but 100% modeled by author, MMC the same. Texture contest really does lead into using a whole bunch of other programs which never really got into a separate section in the Caligari Forums.
Since running a forum needs assets, time, money, folks interested, advertising is one method to support the forums which has it pluses and negatives but if the forums here become more general over a period then more advertisers maybe will become more interested especially now since future tS developement by MS/Caligari has stopped it maybe prime time for the other 3d programs to offer some deals with the tS artists to win them over. Just thinking out loud.

Re: "Other Applications" Forum
This forum, it seems, is a place for the old community to migrate to and for newcomers to TS. Many will be part of another migration -- to other software. So other software has to be part of this forum. The forum should live on as a general 3D forum when most have moved to other programs. All our forum buddies can still be a community of 3D'ers even when we aren't TS'ers anymore.
I'd say for organizational purposes, that the general areas (mostly the current forum) should be about 3D and related stuff using any programs and that sub-forums for Zbrush, Vue, etc. should exist for detailed discussion specific to them.
So you make this great animation using several programs and discuss it in the general animation thread. Someone asks for all the details of how you lip synced your characters. You direct them to your, or to appropriate, threads in the Messiah3D sub-forum.

Re: "Other Applications" Forum
Guys:
YES, this is the first step to a more general 3d community..
If we still hold to the discontinued truespace, we are doomed to disappear.. So my plan is became into a 3D community.
There's a lot of changes planning.. even a new name, domain etc..
But i can't do everything in 1 2 days..
Also, im planing to host the forum on a much solid server.. this poor server is too weak but it does the work for now.. So be patient, and trust me that we are not doomed to our extinction..

Re: "Other Applications" Forum
I think, I get your points right Guys. The old good forum rule “to refrain from promoting competitive products” doesn’t apply in our case in such way, as it was on the Caligari boards. It’s pretty obvious, since we are using the product that doesn’t compete against anyone else on the market.
But wait, are we really free in this terms?
There are still competitors like Blender and they are really strong. They have development, which goes pretty forward. They have perspective to reach new coasts in the foreseeable future, since their captain, doesn’t seem to go from board as first. Finaly, it has the magic magnetic effect for disapointed TS’er in the last time.
What do we have at the moment is our “cult” application, but cults are not very solid base for the planing in long terms.
So, saying this I agree with all thoughts above, but have also the same doubts like Jack Edwards. If we manage to discuss the subject in context of pipelines and don’t end up in wild advertising one application against another, we will survive, however strong winds gusts are blowing us around.
Finis was kind enough to show us the scenario, which is very appreciated model, how it should work.
Just 2ct

I quite like the idea of contests open to any software, there's been times with the SMC I would of loved to use Bryce to get an out door scene, I'm quite blown away with what Carrara can do, a contest is a great excuse to try something new and have a goal to aim for

It's good to see that people want to see this community progress like I do. I think with the state tS is in, we need to branch out into other app's to help this community grow. If we have this forum open to any software we will hopefully grow our community while keeping intact what made the tS forums great, the community.

Re: "Other Applications" Forum
To return to the original post of this thread
For me it would be most helpful at this stage to keep this a trueSpace forum, but as suggested by Liger ZERO start a section for using other software with trueSpace which is where most of actually are anyway. My fear is if this forum doesn't strongly focus on trueSpace, nothing else will and the tremendous help of the trueSpace community will be lost...obviously down the line (if it doesn't grow by plugin development) trueSpace will have a natural end... For me, the prospect of learning another app at my age
does not fill me with enthusiasm
I am already trying to come to grips with Vue and 3D-coat as trueSpace accessories
These are my sentiments exactly! When I read the rest of the thread it seemed like trueSpace was already abandonedLet me start off by saying I don't want to turn this forums focus away from trueSpace. Re: "Other Applications" Forum
I certainly plan on using trueSpace as I always have. That is why we are here. I hope there is enough user interest to support the Developers. That is were we will kill trueSpace not here. If you want trueSpace to be the focus then do it. We are all part of this Forum so everyones involvement will be needed in order to survive.
I am amazed at the number of people that bailed out after Caligari shut down. If I drove a Mustang and they stopped making it would I stop driving it? Crazy.
trueSpace still works, the Developers are trying hard to keep it alive, we need to do the same. Stop talking about trueSpace and it will indeed be dead.
p.s. I love the program so for me it will always be the main focus here.

Re: "Other Applications" Forum
I was amazed by how many people appeared to want to jump ship, it really sucks what has happened with TS, the company, the employees etc BUT my copy of TS hasn't curled its toes and lays twitching on my desktop lol..I thought it had but thats a different story
Personally I used 3.2 for years, tried the trials but stuck with 3.2 but some good fortune I got 6.6.. but still favoured 3.2, it was only when I started a game with toon shaders I moved on, 7.6 became free I still use 6.6, I advance when I need to and right now I'm doing ok as I am..
One day I'm gonna go back to old trusty and see what I can do.. now that would be an interesting contest, timewarp to 3.2

Re: "Other Applications" Forum
Steine is 100% correct in using the Mustang.
Just because they stopped making it does not mean that our copies are going to stop functioning.
We all starting using TS because we liked it and enjoyed the end result it produced.
We have all continued to use it because of the support and the continued updates and new releases.
Just because that has stopped does not mean we have to stop.
If you enjoy it then use it and continue to use it, I have always used other 3D application to work with TS.
For example I use Argile & Poser & Lightwave with TS and will continue to do so.
I find the Lightwave modeler difficult at times, so I use TS to model in, I then use Argile to enhance what I did in TS, I then can export the object as a OBJ file and use it in Lightwave or Poser.
Dont get me wrong I use the animating side of TS about as much as I use Lightwave.
I think TS is and always will be one of the greatest 3D application out there ever designed and if it wasnt for Roman and his vision it would never be here.

Re: "Other Applications" Forum
No you don't have to stop using something(Mustang or trueSpace) because it gets discontinued. But what about the community? How many people do you think are in the Tucker Car Club.
Once the servers go down for tS there will be no one new to come into the tSCommunity. Most likely this forum would slowly die as people move on to other programs or other hobbies. There is 2 reasons why I brought this forum idea up. The main reason is to get help on other programs for the community I trust. I wished I could get help at the main tS forums on Zbrush or Hexagon but because tS would not allow that I never could get that help. The other reason is I want to see this great community continue long after tS is gone.
I don't care if we mix the current forums with other app threads or if we have a dedicated forum for other app's. I just want some help from this community if I need it.

Re: "Other Applications" Forum
Any news on this? Adding a few new groups is easy. I think we need a new group for each related software. Something like Ts and Daz. Ts and Vue. Etc. Or should we ask questions in the Ts threads? This will become messy. We have good, but unfinished software which will never be finished anymore. Unfortunately.
