Speed Model Challenge #50 - Snow Globe (I know that is much specific but I think will be funny! Do anything like snow cube, traditional snow globe, giant snow globe, technological snow globe, psychedelic, etc)

DEADLINE : October 26th, 2009 (midnight - I mean 23:59:59.99)
VOTING: October 27th - November 1st
(Sorry for the delay, I should have started it in October 1st, so sorry!)

RULES:
1) Use any 3D software you choose (let's see the difference).
2) Create the model(s) within a **5** hour time limit. (Special Month)
3) You may enter as many times as you wish.
4) Your entry will also include a wireframe screen grab before SDS (subdivision) has been applied. This is included to help others learn modeling techniques.
5) Include time spent, software/version and render engine used with your submission.
6) Post one render per entry at 800 x 600 pixels
7) Render, Lighting, and Texturing are not included within the 5 hour time limit.

Ok, Let's go. Hope many entries!!! :superbanana:

Snow globe castle:
modeled in TS 1 1/2 hrs
Re textured in Carrara, added particles, HDRI, couldn't get the reflections right
render time about 10 mins on that HDRI

This was hard to get a good render on, lot of little quirks

Model time 1.25 hours
textures, 15 minutes
Transparency and render: 2 hours

Here is my snowball with no snow :D

Same, the refraction is verey tricky. I'm not really happy with the result. I coudn't get rid of a double refraction on the air bubble. I modeled several options, glass on one side, water on another, several materials and refraction indexes... And the colour of the earth... the light is disperesd a lot by the glass, and the texture become too dark but lighter colour started to glow... (I was tempted to do a little post pro )
Modeled in TrueSpace and rendered in Kerkythea.
Some 4 hours coming and going betwen aplications including rendering tests, not final render.
