MMC jan.2011 Shipwreck
Here is the beginning of my ship. Shame I'll have to wreck it when it's finished

I haven't got a clue, lol, it's a mix between many kinds of ships.
I fact, I pretty much built this whole thing without looking at any reference material at all.
I'm looking at various ships now though, need to know a thing or two before I continue.

Putting the methods aside the final result is amazing! I would like to know what you did with the ropes and sails to look so natural.

Sub-division, that's the trick.
And for the textures, a double layered texture in model-side with a bumpmap.

It's not that hard actually, just start with the hull and work your way up.

Man I have tried everything. I can't get my mind wrapped around it, not sure why. I still have a plan for my ship, but it is going to be the exact opposite of what I was going to do. After I am done, I am going to get to practicting my modeling in this area. I need to get it fine tuned.

Re: MMC jan.2011 Shipwreck
Ships are the easier type of transport to model, cars and planes are much much harder! I like ships now =)

Maybe you're trying to hard. Just start with the things you know how to build and use techniques that you already know. Then, when have a base to work on, the rest comes automatically.

I would suggest starting a WIP and post screen shots when you get stuck. Ask for advise based on the problem in the screen capture. Work your way through the problem with the help of U3DA talent.

Re: MMC jan.2011 Shipwreck
Ok my last post on this, I don't want to hijack Mikom's thread. I have posted where I am getting stuck Steine. Well Rayman started a thread in response to a message I sent him. You can see where I am getting stuck there. Ray did send me a wire frame, but I still can't seem to get it So sorry Mikom and I will not post on here anymore, about that.
I do like your ship by the way.

Re: MMC jan.2011 Shipwreck
Finally after a long time waiting for trueSpace to work and after countless of "system out of memory" error messages I can finally present my ship.
I called her Gaia's Dream, she is no particular type of ship, completely my own design.
I'm not entirely sure how I'm going to make the shipwreck scene since my computer can hardly even render this image.

Larger image (recommended if you want to see all the details): http://media.moddb.com/images/groups/1/ ... render.jpg
Also, the render turned out rather strange, for example the shadows on the deck are totally wrong and the sign on the flag should be in the center, not where it is now.
