Web Cam Question

Post by Steinie »

I am curious to know who has a web cam and is there interest in a group meeting. :?:
With Skype we would be one on one without paying.
GMail + can do 5 or 6 at once I believe.

What options are there. What are your thoughts. Is there any interest in this? Open for discussion...

I skype conference without a web cam so I have no problem conferencing if you want to start a group to do work on the site... or other projects.

Sure

I use skype to conference call with V3rd3,Dragneye and Rayman once a week or so. Its always a blast and I usually learn something new.

But there is also this free option I was looking at for our project. http://www.teamviewer.com/en/index.aspx. We voted to stay with skype but if you have a large group you can have up to 25 at one time I think with the free version. I believe we decided against it because some of us were a bit nervous about the remote desktop/access part of it.

I've got Skype, I use it to talk with my parents, I also have a somewhat crude webcam but it can certainly be used in an emergency :D

Teamviewer is a useful program, I also use it to remotely fix problems on my parents PC now and then. Don't worry about the remote access part, I think you can disable that in your settings.

Teamviewer is a much better option as I use it very often at work and home.
I use it at work to conduct online conferences with the board members and it does not have a limit to the amount of people that can join.
I use it from home to fix my dad's computer when he has messed something up.

Will Skype work with a dialup connection? I'd be interested in my case to connect with others online. MSN messenger works okay but the tranny rate is horrible on a 56k connect. Cheers.

I would suggest you just stay with voice only on a 56k connection.... the video consumption of bandwidth will overwhelm the connection.

Look at teamviewer it is free for what you are wanting to do and has alot of option to share your desktop and do presentations.
The only downside to the free version is that your password changes each time you start a new session.
Try it I believe you will find it work way better than skype for sharing info and doing tutorials.

Skype has an chat for the call where you can share files etc... also has a screen sharing set up where participants in the call can watch your screen or you theirs.

Yes, I'm down to testing it. I use skype sometimes (as I had a long distance relationship once!). I'll be logged in all day today. Add me and drop a call. I have no webcam at the moment, but we can try out the Screen. My user name and details is in a PM.
