Re: Searching for some Things from the old times....
Pyrocluster is still supported? I have it on one of my old truespace pak cds but never bothered to reinstall because I heard getting an authentication code (or something like that) was next to impossible. Has this changed? I'd love to know because I'd like to use it.

Cebas still sends auth code to activate Pyrocluster for tS.

Thanks bro, me being the TS pack rat that I am I couldn't resist the temptation to download this one too. Btw, greetings to all. I'm been busy lately with other endevours, but just thought I'd stop by and say howdy to all. Leroy.Fenerit wrote:The color and transparency gradient shader is here:

BTW, because the now definitely defunct links, I resurrect the free "planet" and "spot" shaders by Axionfx. I use it exaustively on my tS 6.6 without faults.

Re: Searching for some Things from the old times....
Very cool Fen thanks. It would seem that we're all going to need to archive these resources as we find them and share them as the need arises. I usually post them myself when I see a post asking for something I have or know where to point other people to on the web. My modeling forum also has quite a few uploaded as attachments; I configured the forum settings so even non-members have access to them. I also added one for the demo version of Gamespace and may even add one for TS 3.2 eventually. freeforum.org is pretty awesome for making stuff like this possible. Leroy.

I agree. I post the attachments here, but it's somewhat implicit that if someone want to re-collect them elsewhere I think he can do it. I dug the Moonman resources several years ago and usually I re-check it from time to time, but the broken links growth ever more.

I have some notes.Rotcorp wrote:Hmmm... Can't get pyrocluster to install in 6.6.... seems it needs ts5. anyone know a workaround? I'm a little dumb when it comes to this stuff....
1. rename ts6.exe to ts5.exe
2. install
3. copy PLUGCFG files
4. rename ts5.exe back to ts6.exe
I don't remember what step 3 is all about. It might be a backup step so it can be reinstalled more easily.

Re: Searching for some Things from the old times....
How much better looks/works Pyrocluster compared to ppfx? Is there no way ot get the TRuespace plugin anymore (even used) - or the old Caligari Packs?

Re: Searching for some Things from the old times....
Pyrocluster was slower but gave some nice looking smoke effects that can't easily be achieved in ppfx. The particles are geometry, hence the slower renders. Unfortunately, I still can't get mine to run as the file type won't load into TS and I've not yet had the chance to experiment....

Re: Searching for some Things from the old times....
pyrocluster will work..do you mean cebas.dll not loading or the install looking for ts 66.exe or something like that. just rename to the version it asks for temporarily should work.

Re: Searching for some Things from the old times....
I just mean there's no tsx file, so I'm not entirely sure how to access pyrocluster. It's been years since I used it, so I'm sure I'm forgetting something simple. i did get it to install though by temporarily renaming ts6.exe to ts5.exe. And since this was Engelskrieger79's thread about looking for stuff old plug ins, I kinda didn't want to completely hijack the thread, so I was actually gonna start a new one when I got back to playing with the plug in. Though I really appreciate the help so far.

Re: Searching for some Things from the old times....
then its cebas.dll you are looking for not cebas.tsx. simply when loading a plugin choose .dll in the drop down choice. ...all .tsx are .dll's

Re: Searching for some Things from the old times....
Patent violations last at least 25 years after publication of the software... copyright could go 50-75 years depending on jurisdiction.
Abandonware is a risk category. Basically do the authors think they can sue you for enough compensation if they catch you distributing without their consent.
I think the vcTek guys have a lot to protect and they would most likely pursue shutting down any distribution. Cebas are still producing fx software and most liikely would pursue license violations.
Its up to you and the risks you want to take. Don't do it here cuz it could mean suits against ppl running this site.

Re: Searching for some Things from the old times....
Yeah, what V3rd3 said.
"Abandon ware" is mostly something made up by anti-property activists but it can refer to becoming public domain after expiration of the copyright. Laws vary but in US copyright law the creator of a work owns copyright on it when it is created and the copyright expires 70 years after the death of the "author". The work then becomes public domain meaning anyone can use it. Also, a copyright owner can declare a work to be public domain or set permissive rules of use like the GNU or creative commons licenses. Copyright can be sold or transferred by contract.
Possibilities
- The companies may still sell the programs.
- Some might have licenses that allow some distribution like GNU etc.
- The owners may have released some of them to the public domain.
Although you'll occasionally see someone get away with it here, attempts to illegally distribute software or enable such will just get your posts deleted and at least one member was banned for that (or was that the previous "anaglifo" incarnation of this site?).

Re: Searching for some Things from the old times....
i never said that i would release them.
............. it's just a shame that you can't buy these anymore and it's getting harder and harder to get pluginns like this for TS. It seems from early reports that TS will work on windows 8, so it will still be around for a while more.
