collaborative modeling

Post by Storyteller »

to be clear, I can create a shared space and do modeling tasks, sweeping, scaling, rotating faces points edges etc, and other can view, or even perform similar operations on a model at the same time?

Users can place lights move them, create objects, uv map something, apply shaders etc and all persons present can interact with the truespace modeling tools (in tS) or do simple things like move an existing object in truplay?

trueSpace7 users can do all of that when logged into a Shared Space that have privileges set by owner of the shared space.

It's quite fun if you have the bandwidth, or when you do it over LAN, it's just interesting trying to get the server right. I am tempted to train my interns at work that way, but keep forgetting how to setup the server right.

And yes, you can texture, model and animate all together in the same space. Even script. And there is a chat system. I don't know what happened to the VOIP, but I think Skype does the trick, or Google hangouts.

No voice chat (only text) system exist in trueServe, as it was scraped during Beta testing. It had issues during development.

Call me skeptical, but I'm expecting a link to kitchen cabinets to appear in OP's post in 3, 2, 1....

Sorry about the skepticism, and welcome to the forum.
Dealing with spammers has unfortunately affected my manners.

The collaborative modelling aspects of tS were/are indeed possible and very cool.
The 'official' collab spaces disappeared during the Microsoft takeover, but a couple individuals since have had the occasional server set up,
since they had the trueServe software available for download for a while there near the end.

I don't think they've been up and running lately, however.

Another tS idea years ahead of it's time.

I appreciate the info! I was planning on using tS and sS as a teaching tool for an 'intro to 3d 101'

Thank you!
