And we start with the 20 minute, horribly cheap ball point pen.
All trueSpace 6.6...
"Texturing", "lighting", adjusting the perspective to be "perfect", failing to use a material rectangle and rendering took another 30 minutes.
Edit - Also, I forgot about the wireframe... here it is.

I don't know if this is valid as a writing instrument, if it's not I just delete the post.

Program Blender:
Model time: 25 minutes for the Brush metal and wood, another 10 minutes for the jar, Hair for the bristes on the brush 5 minutes, and Fluid sim for the paint 20 minutes.
Texture and Lighting: Only took 5 minutes to setup, but then I played around with Caustic, ambient occlusion and Ray depth in Yafaray for a while. Was fun to see the different results.
Render: one render in Blender basic, and one for YAfaray

Wire Frame 1: 4 levels of Subdivision on the liquid.

After a conceptual Writing Instrument now I made a realistic one...
Power Ball Pen
Model Time: 1h 15 min (Timed)
Texturing and Lighting: 4 h (I'm perfectionist)
Truespace 7.6 using Lightworks with Raycast
Rendered in 1h 15min (coincidence )
I used 3 SDS in the model and transparent shadows, I think this is the cause of a slow render ;)

TS 7.6 Model Side
Modeling Time: 1 hour 52 minutes*
Texture and Lighting: About 90 minutes
Render Time with Lightworks: 32 minutes (3X anti-aliasing)

* Judgement of Accu needed: I experimented with methods to make the spiral tube, but made no pen parts, for at least 30 minutes. Then I started from scratch with what I had learned to make the pen. So if the experimentation time counts then this entry is over the time limit.

Titanium and platinum materials.

WIP: vi ... ?f=5&t=693"

The wireframe shows an expanded view of the spiral tube too.

Edit: added link to wip.

This is my third and last entry to this SMC. I would say thanks for all comments and help that everybody provided to me! This is my first SMC so I was very excited with this challenge, it was a fun make those models! Sorry if I flooded with much images...

This is a Fountain Pen that I designed based in several fountain pens, the glass recipient there it's for the ink and the golden metal it's a candle support! I tried to make a lightning to looks like a candle fire, I think that worked :D ... The paper I catch from 3D Filter (Many Thanks (RAYMAN) and modified with the text (Non-sense) in the photoshop, used a little of DOF and a wood texture for the table... I will not lie but was very easy to create it '-' the most difficulty part was the texturing and lightning! :geek:
Model time: 1h 10 min - 1h 40min (Poorly Timed, but I'm sure that don't pass two hours)
Texturing and Lightning: 4h
Truespace 7.6 using Lightworks with Raycast
Rendered in 20 min
