MMC July - Dark Fortress

Post by jamesmc »

Everything was going according to plan. Kids were popping fireworks outside. The smell of a dozen barbeque grills were wafting delicious smoke in the air and I was starting on my MMC project for July.

I said out loud, "I making great headway on this project."

Then it happened, something from the past I tried to forget. It was in the back seat of a 58 Cadillac. Some "Tiger Ale", Me and Lotta Teeth. Nothing happened! I mean I heard the sound of a zipper and 15 seconds later I lost consciousness!

When I woke up, Lotta was gone and I was wearing...well - let's not get into that.

I was rendering my composition and "BOOM!" this giant head popped onto canvas. I'm not sure I can finish this project because a flood of memories started coming back. A full moon, some "Clark's Teaberry Brand Gum", an eight-track playing "Chariots of Fire" with a set of enormous teeth and some ...er..nevermind.

I shall press on and try to persevere, but this is causing my brow to sweat and my pits to turn outwards. It's not a pretty sight!

Wow! Same thing is happening to me!!
This is a story right?...except mine was a Reel to Reel with Janice Joplin, a Griesedieck beer, Lotta Teeth and velcro pants, something to do with cotton balls.... (don't ask)
Everything else matched when you say enormous...

Great start to this story James... :bananacheers:

Getting back to work on this project, re-did the guard towers. The fortress proper I start on next.

Added a guardian to the Dark Fortress - a dry land Octopus. Probably will add a skeleton - maybe - so I can pose it.

The scene shows the Dryland Octopus shedding his dormancy armor (resting on turret in background), just in time to get an opportunity to feast on foes of the dark fortress or some unfortunate wandering the compound at night. :)

Great octopus. The ground rocks in the fortress are too big. I think you need a different texture there.

Thanks! Ya, still in placeholder mode, haven't decided what to put there.

Added a skeleton, then had an accident....My IK groups were outside of the Octo group and I didn't notice when I rotated the Octo

results, it got all knotted up, twisted and arms 180 degrees or more outof whack.

Will have to start over with the skeleton and IK. heh

It looked really good animated

Anyway, here's the IK accident (cough - watching TV and working, wasn't payingattention)

Added some "camoflauge spots" to break up the pattern on the Octopus and make it appear meaner. :)

Re-rigged the octopus and posed it. Want some things to go along with it, not sure I have time. heh

Much better texturing in this one.
If this creature is the guardian of the castle then
what is the brown creature in the back? I can't make out what it should be.
I also like the suckers and the evil eye.

That's thing in the back is the octopus shell. I'll put it back on and render it. Needed to find a good leather texture for it though and wanted to put some straps and buckles with it. heh

But will do a quick render with the shell on.

One quick comment james;
the octopus appears to be 'floating', it's not
'on the ground'. Is it possible to add some shadowing
or something to mount the octopus into the scene?
I am not quite sure how to do that myself.

Yeah, haven't decided or not to make the scene underwater or somehow make the Octo more adaptable to land somehow - perhaps sitting on a pile of rocks or bones - heh.

Here's the Octo armor. Had an idea at one time to make it an OctoCrab. That is, with lobster like claws on the front and perhaps a stinger for the tail :)

Gave it a pile of bones (it's meals) to lay upon.
