Models
Going to post all models being made here
For now, just so we can test things, we make one thing of each before working on extras and variants and so on. First up, the "Hawk"
Included front view, gear down and a wireframe view, this is a low poly model at around 4000 vertices. Comments always welcome

Re: Models
Next model, or the series of models it will become is from the scene that can be found in the concept thread, the big guns. Watermark and such for final piece. Around 1000 vertices

Re: Models
Two youtube videos of two environments after a fairly long hiatus, don't worry, more is on it's way, both are models from schattendorn's concept art
Poor video quality because it's a realtime truespace 6.6 camtasia record.
First scene has a polycount of 18000
Second scene has a polycount of around 5000

Re: Models
Thanks a lot Leon, as promised, here is that "more". Featuring the Hawk again
Conceptor: again, was Schattendorn
Modeller: Me
Texturer and model "cleaner-upper": The magic of Madmouse, while not all models after this will feature his work, it's still a fantastic bar to raise for the quality of work you should be expecting with this project, and he's done much more work than he realises with the project so give him some bananas.
Polycount 4000 with 0 Ngons thanks to Madmouse again
This also gives you a good look at four different logos and styles and paint schemes that will be very prominent throughout the project, "red, blue, green and yellow"
Logos are designed by schattendorn except for the shark mouth, which was created by Madmouse, Blue logo was a mix of both their inputs
Image dump ahoy

Re: Models
As Weevil has said in his post I was responsible for the textures and the reworking of the original mesh for the Hawk model,
so I'd thought I'd post a few of my test renders for you to see.
This is a great project and I regret that I can't be more involved than I am with its development.

So did a bit of a marathon, made in around 6-7 hours with so many teaks I see "file > save as..." every time I close my eyes
These guns are broken down wrecks, extremely big and old. Hope they're at the same quality of the hawk

Hmm, I'll have a look into that, I might have to reverse the specular map to show you the bumps. The scale...yeah is a bit big, I'll need to look into that
Thanks steve

Re: Models
this project become interesting. I like the idea to do that with a team. the project seem to be inspired by comic book. I think about Moebius, a french illustrator witch have a wonderfull world. I imagine also a touch of Enki bilal and Flash gordon by Alex Raymond.

Re: Models
Ow it seems really good and I bet that the poly count is low, which makes it better for animating, right?
Yeah, this WIP shows exactly the power of a good team! And when I start my great WIPs in a near future I hope have a superb team like that!!! This is the prove and experience...
Keep the good work!

Thanks a lot guys, the Enki bilal is certainly an interesting one. Let's hope we can keep on suprising you in the future eh?

I must admit in hindsight I hope to draw a lot more future inspiration from that, it's a fantastic looking film

That's funny that you don't like texturing...I can do without modeling and much prefer to texture and to do the lighting

Maybe there's a chance you could join this group of "merry men" if you wish, at the moment I'm getting into the swing of things now, once we boot out this environment, and the first capital ship...at least once all those three pieces have been properly compiled and what this project actually is becomes clear and a proper informed decision could be madetahnoak wrote: That's funny that you don't like texturing...I can do without modeling and much prefer to texture and to do the lighting
Interested in giving it a swing?

Re: Models
Thank you sir. There are many separate objects, like the buttons and knobs, right? I was curious about the complexity of the mesh and if it was mostly one big mesh (but not one big mess) or several. I see that much of the really good work has simpler meshes than I would expect.

Steve, now that the dust is blown away, are you still working on this project?

Re: Models
Absolutely. This project was made for, by the end five of us to achieve grades. We donated a poster to the Games design department of Staffordshire University (Which is where myself, and our coder Peter are studying in a weeks time), I highly doubt that they would let us let the project die nor would we want to.
So far we have a crude level creator (which we ourselves need to use to generate the levels) and basic flight controls sorted out. Sadly no screenshots nor collision as of yet.
We would be happy to organise these threads better and make the project development totally transparent if anyone wishes

Wow, this stuff is great! Love the textures, and the concept the planes have. Gorgeous. Did they get used for anything in the end?
Could I use them and animate something? Please please! They are so great!
