I'm new to Truespace. I've been following Jack Edward's videocourses on Organic Modeling. Multiple attempts to fix my problem created even more.
My first concern was when I applied the constanttexture material to the plane. It didn't tile as the plane in the video. I'm not sure if that's a major problem. <SOLVED> Was an improvement from version 7.5 to 7.6.
Also, dragging the viperfish image from the link editor to the constanttexture thumbnail in the stackview did not change the texture on the plane. <SOLVED> Use the funnel icon in the material editor to apply the material.
I decided to skip straight to adding the cylinder and model the fish. But the cylinder automatically applied the viperfish image to itself. How do I prevent it from doing this? <SOLVED> Right click the material sphere in the Material Editor then use the Funnel Icon to apply the default material.
And finally... now when I draw out a plane, the view widget is often placed on the corner nearest to the camera, even when drawn from different camera angles, instead of at the point from where it was drawn. This is just a minor concern.
How do I solve my problems? I've looked around the web, replayed the videos for things I may have missed, and have looked through the manual. There probably simpler to sove then I think...

Re: Texture Applies Automatically
It's a difference between 7.5 and 7.6. The material system was changed some. By default trueSpace no longer edits the selected material directly, but rather stores it in a sort of "temporary" material buffer. So you can make changes to the sampled material without it updating the material applied to the object. To apply the material changes to the object, select the object and press the funnel looking icon on the material editor.
The material currently in the temporary material buffer is automatically applied to new primitives. To switch back to the default material, right click on the material sphere in the Material Editor. You can then apply it to any primitives that accidentally got the wrong material with the funnel icon used previously. The trick here is to remember to reset the temporary material before creating new primitives.
Don't worry about the tiling of the texture. That is the result of improved UVs for primitives in 7.6. Since the image is already showing up fitted to the plane, you can skip the UV fixing step if you like.
I'd have to see screen caps or video of the other issues to advise you on those.
Let me know if you're still stuck.

Re: Texture Applies Automatically
I'm glad to have gotten help from none other than Jack Edwards himself!
It's good to know the texture tiling was because of improved UVs. When I saw the difference between my screen and the video, it was a sudden insecurity.
That funnel icon in the material editor is pretty handy.
I also learned to use it after dragging the viperfish image to the constanttexture thumbnail to change the material on the plane, since it apparently doesn't do it automatically.

Re: Texture Applies Automatically
You can change the setting to make it behave like in 7.5, by switching to the advanced version of the Material Editor and checking the "Edit picked material directly" checkbox.
To get to the advanced version, click and hold where it says "Default" and drag down to "Advanced" then let go.
Glad I could help!

Re: Texture Applies Automatically
Changed the setting for that then.
I'm still going on with the video courses.
And nice fish Karthogen, haha. Yeah, Jack's tutorials seem to be the way to go. I wonder what the end result of my viperfish is gonna look like...
