I downloaded the free version of truespace 7.61 Beta 8 standalone and as i was watching the tutorials, it was clear to me that the screen shots from the tutorial and what I was looking at were not the same. Am I seeing this correctly?
Secondly, I have a very specific task I am trying to accomplish which consists of creating a model to show the 3dimensional collision with a golf club and ball. I need to be able to show the club traveling in an arc toward the ball at particular angles relative to the x axis and/or yaxis colliding with the ball and showing where in relation to the x axis what direction the club was moving before it reached its lowest point.
I've done all the math but now I want to try and create a 3d model to show others.
Is this program capable of completing such a project and does this sound difficult for a nonuser to create?

I would say Truespace can handle such a project. Implementing a solution that meets your expectations really depends on your expectations and the effort you are willing to invest.
You really cannot use any software and consider yourself a non-user
.
There are 2 sides to Truespace 7. One is referred to as the "model" side, the other is the "workspace". Owing to Caligari's decision to drop support for the "model" side the version of truespace you have only the "workspace" side. As such, any tutorials using the model side will demonstrate some general 3d techniques, only those written for the workspace will give specific instructions.
I suggest you have a look at Jack Edwards Organic Modelling Course to get you started. It is a terrific introduction to the workspace and box modelling techniques you will want to consider using.
Another point on the "not matching" videos is that Truespace was released as 7.1 and 7.5 before 7.6 and 7.61 so the colour schemes of the earlier releases was a little bit different as well. Also, owing to the fact that the interface is completely customizable just about every Truespace user has modified the default to their tastes. This does not change the fact that all the buttons are still there somewhere.
You will find this community very helpful so ask any questions you may have and someone will usually answer you within a day or so.

Sounds like an intersting project.
Once you get the club and ball modeled. you should be able to set a pivot point where the shoulder would be and from there be able to rotate the club around the pivot point to see where the clube woudl strike the ball. By adjusting the pivot point in front of behind or even with the ball you should be able to see the difference in impact based on where you stand. The dimensions and angles would be pretty important for this one I think.

Thanks for the advice. My main concern is just showing a club and ball and the angle the club is approaching and the trajectory for the ball taking off. The ball will leave on a plane that is created by the angle of clubface in 3d and the direction of the clubhead(less friction and a bunch of other things I won't worry about at this time.)Karthogen wrote:Sounds like an intersting project.

The pivot point idea should work well as long as I can change the angle to ground from 6 degrees up to 6 degrees down(at impact with the ball) and everything in between. As the ball takes off, I want to also shade the plane that is created by the clubface vector and clubhead vector cause the ball will travel in this plane with its spin axis perpendiculat to the plane. Whenver the plane is titled(not vertical) the ball will curve and hopefully people will have a better understanding.
Is this doable with just the workspace side?

Great question! It turns out that anytime you are hitting the ball off the ground and you correctly take a divot after the ball, you must either aim or swing left some amount to hit the ball straight because of the picture I showed. Now, you could also aim parallel left, but to make the ball go straight, now your swing would be left of your stance. That works too.

That still all sounds do'able in workspace. Definately ask when you get stuck the people here are very helpful.

Sorry, not a golf nut, quite the opposite. My brother (who is a golf nut) tried in vain a number of times but I stopped in order save the local wildlife.
The project is doable in a number of different ways.
The basic path to take is....
) write your script or draw a storyboard
) obtain whatever reference materials you need to model the objects in your scene
) create the models of the objects to be included in your scene
) apply materials or textures to your objects (apply colors etc.)
) rig your characters (create a bone system to control character movement)
) keyframe your animation
) render final animation
) post production
- clean up frames, if required
- apply video effects
- do voice over/narration
- titling and sound
- create final video
- pick up awards, thank the "little" people, thank the academy, thank the producer, call mom to apologize for not thanking her at the awards show and explain who "that floozy" was and why you were wearing "that outfit" on the cover of the Enquirer.....
The project is doable in a number of different ways.

Well, I'm struggling mightily. I watch the organics modeling tutorial but I don't see a roadway that gets me to completion of this task. I would like to offer to hire someone that has much better understanding of the workspace. I'm open to offers and I'll provide a much more complex explanation of what I'm looking for.
