Hi
As a new chap to Truespace , I was wondering if some one could direct me to the best place to start learning TS from the very basics. ( is it just a case of RTFM? )
Thank you
Ken

Re: Were to start learning Truspace ?
Hey kencanvey....Welcome to trueSpace and the Forums !
The other original Forum will still be open until October (Trick or Treat
).
I started learning on the Model Side. That's where you'll find your LightWorks Render Engine also. This link has some helpful tips (but is linked to the other Forum that will only be open for 5 months)...(http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/s ... 525=post#2" )
If you scroll down the first link, you'll find a few images that can help with the basics. I started out with manipulating the primitives, used the copy and mirror tools, boolean subtract tool, located the materials and applied them in different combinations, rendered out the scene....and then started playing with attaching bones and animation.
If you have any questions, I'll be glad to help with what I can along the way.

Now that this is clearly a community driven software for the indefinite future, I expect there will be more effort by the community to provide support to help keep the user base up.
Let us know where you're stuck and someone will be sure to help out. Screen grabs and videos are helpful so we can see what you're doing.
I'll try and get some new training videos out soon. I may need to charge a few dollars for them though to help with my hosting costs. Hopefully others can do training vids as well.

Also, don't ignore the proteam videos (if they're still up... haven't checked). They're free now, and worth downloading. Some of them date back to earlier versions of TS but are still helpful. If they are still around, they'll be accesible on the caligari website under "training".

Hey Kencanvey! Welcome
One other resource that I found very helpful is a book by Frank Rivera called Inside TrueSpace4. It's based on an older version of TS(4), but Frank is very good at conveying the basic concepts of 3D modeling/texturing/shading in this book. I found it on amazon books for 87 cents used, not a bad price eh? Well worth it, you just have to keep in mind some of the controls/icons etc.. mentioned in the book probably have changed a bit, but still great reading. Also, as others have stated, the Calagari website tutorials are great if they're still available. Let me know if you need anything, be glad to help if I can, I'm still fairly new to TS also. If you should ever need original music for any future animation project, just give me a shout & I'll pop out a track for you.
Jack, looking forward to new tutorials, hopefully animation voice sync is somewhere in your bag of tricks?
I for one would not mind contributing to the cost, I'm sure it will be well worth it!
Best Regards,
Musikman

The organics modeling course under Fundamental Courses on the Calegari website is extremely helpful. That was the only extensive TrueSpace 7.X modeling tutorial I could find. There's a couple in the manual, but they're very basic. The other modeling videos on that website use older versions of the software with drastically different user interfaces.

Yes that is the right book! Originally it came with a cd rom but I bought it used so I didn't get the cd. You can try to buy a new one if they're available and you might get the cd, but much more expensive ($25.00) and can't guarantee it will have the cd.
