Website Header Images

Post by DesignDevil »

The first image for the 'header' of my website (www.DesignDevil.de) is finished. The next will follow soon.

The character is a modification of a test - character that i call 'animan'. Animan is my test character for animation completly rigged in MotionStudio. With him i try to figure out some rig methods, posing posibilitys etc. Last but not least is the character a double from a training character build for MAYA training on the Animation School at http://www.animationmentor.com

The texture on the cube is a redesign of the original caligari logo. If anybody need this texture i can post it here.

The image is created and rendered in TS 6.6 (lightworks) with 2 infinite lights and a light dome with 45 local lights. Rendertime 30 sec. on 1800 x 560 pixel resolution.

Image

The BIG version of the image can be found here: http://www.designdevil.de/index.php?menu=gallery

Great images DesignDevil. I also visited and bookmarked your website, impressive stuff. I'm definately going to have to try and find the time to create one of these light dome thingamajigs.

Thanks a lot for the positiv feedback.

Well, i also proud about the images. Now i just need one more for the last menu point "about". But for this i have no idea what i could make. The one idea that i had is not possible to make (in TS) or it would be to difficult so that i leave it.

So, the question to the comunity: "what could be a good scene to represent the 'about' site" ???

Well, it is "about me" - but on the button is just short "about".

The idea sounds funny. But let me wait if any other one has also an idea. Thanks.

Thanks a lot for this reply.

The next few days i'm not in town but when i'm back i will see if i can make a tutorial about these.

But hey, there is no 'magic' in doing such images. The only thing is: plan your work and use the tools correctly. If you have a 8000$ software and you can not hold the mouse straight forward you never get a good looking result. You just need a pencil, paper, a graphic program (in my case PSP 7), TrueSpace and enough training. The rest is your imagination.

Ok, the training is the difficult thing. I use TS now over years and the look of my first images was horrable. But hey - that's learning - and i learned a lot of things with tutorials from other TS users. Now it's time to give back a few things. So, let me see what i can do.

As I've said before (although the words I could use to describe it were slightly more limited there) it's a fantastic bit of work, sadly though the light scheme you use just makes Truespce give up and die on me which is a pity

Keep on bringing these images out!

These are really fantastic. The lighting looks superb on these, beautiful renders. I've never used virtual light. I will have to take a look at it when I get a chance now though.

Thanks a lot for the reply.

@3dfrog: The images are NOT rendered with Virtual Light !!!! They are rendered with the standard LIGHTWORKS Render Engine from TS 6.6 !!!

How is say'd before - normaly there is no "magic" behind them. It's just a - well god - conversation from my head over a piece of paper into TS ;)

In a few days i'll be back and make a small "making of".

Realy nice work! Clean compositions and great looks. I love the way you have rendered the scenes with the lightdome. Gives great global illumination results and a lot faster then when using an IBL. Besides, a lightdome is better to control, like altering the color of the lights. I use local lights a lot to create indoor global illumination. While arealights are usefull to fake bouncing light from the floor or wall.
