Porting shortcut layouts from Blender, 3Dmax and Maya

Post by Draise »

Into trueSpace.

I know it sound preposterous, but.. just thought.. maybe it would be good to have a preset set of shortcuts coming from those softwares. The more I work with others, the more I realize I sometimes need this - because hands down trueSpace has some advantages over other for quick visualization and simplicity for modeling - but if I want someone else to learn it - they get daunted by the strange system, or they don't want to jump from what they are comfortable with.

So... I was wondering, anyone want to help me learn the shortcuts and basic functions of say.. 3DSmax, Blender, Maya and help me find equivalents within trueSpace?

Also, there was a blender shortcut list - maybe I'll just try process that one first.

But yeah, what do you think of the idea?

If they are to get the benefits of the way TS works then they have to learn TS. Also, the proposed shortcut system is shortcut focused. Students might not be users of the shortcuts in the other software, if that can be avoided, and I think TS is best used with no or few short cuts. I almost never used shortcuts in TS. The ability to work without them is one of the good things about TS.

I guess I'm a two handed user and always recommend two hands to work efficiently.

I like trueSpace with it's very easy way of assigning shortcuts both in the WS and the MS.

I am just trying to consider making learning trueSpace much easier, faster, more efficient. So I can build a team with project inside trueSpace - I seem to be getting more and more work and I don't think I can do it ALL by myself.

That's great that your business is growing! I'm happy to hear it! I've been turning away a potential new customer every one or two weeks because I have all I can do by myself. I keep thinking if could hire people I'd have a business that gains a customer every two weeks.

Hiring people or having partners has good and bad. Since you love what you do and your employees probably would too I think growing your business to a team is a good idea.

As one independent self employed business guy to another I think basing a business on software that is no longer supported and few people know is a bad idea.

If you create a team I'd recommend you use tools that provide a strong flexible foundation for your business. That's software with continuing development, many current users (large base of potential talent to hire), and much ability. Look for the talent in people not in software. People skilled with a program will be quite productive with it. You need people who already kick butt in a CG program and can meet the challenges of learning tough programs and being productive.
