I've been fighting with IE8 since it came out of beta. Everything has been unusably slow lately and I finally decided to search the web and see if I could find out what they heck was going on.
I stumbled upon a fix mentioned here:
http://blogs.zdnet.com/Bott/?p=754"
regsvr32 actxprxy.dll
It's also mentioned here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/281679"
The difference is incredible. Hard to believe that the developers forgot to register the dll in the installer, but that appears to be the case. Note that this fix may also improve trueSpace performance, since trueSpace is almost entirely COM object based.
