hey folks, nice to be here. Iam very glad that this forum exists (is caligari forum functioning? i cannot connect and browse it). Well, my problem:
I need to export some object to Solidworks. Best way seems to be iges export via conversion pak (in tS7.6 running on WinXPx64). Object is made of NURBS to be smooth and compatible with CAD aps. Polygonal objects export without problem, but any nurb object I make in modeler side nurbs has at least one problem when exporting. No matter how hard I try, I still get errormsg: Face is degenerate - surface is not G1 continous. Even when I export nurbs primitive.
How to make and export nurbs object right? What do I do wrong? It should be solid iges, but tS nurbs are "hollow" not solid. Rarely solidworks is able to diagnose and fix the object and make it editable inside solidworks. Mostly it loads the object with errors and is not able to work with it further, some faces are missing and so.
thanks for help

Hi Bitkar,
Not sure how help, but here are some tips... I should suggest you to convert nurbs on polyhedrons.. how? click on Swep or add one SubDivision layer and you nurb obect..
Flatten history on workspace side also do that thing..
If you still with problems you can try to export to obj, reimport and then export again on your specific file format.. maybe that should solve problems too.. what ever, if you still with troubles you can share the "problematic" object here so people will have something to test and help you..
Welcome Aboard!

Re: IGES export
thanks for response,
polyhedron export works, as I wrote. But its not the goal. I cannot use polyhedron, because polygon output is faced, something like you make a poly sphere and turn of autofacet in material - this is how it looks like in Solidworks and how it would be manufactured. I wanted to make an object for my colegue that needs it as part of project made in solidworks, because to model it in Solidworks is not as easy as in tS :) And when you need a curved smooth surface in cad/cam, it has to be done using curves, splines, etc. to be really smooth, not "faced". I can give here the object by tomorrow, but I have the export problem even when I create nurbs primitive and try to export it without touching it.
Anyone ever tried to export iges or sat to a professional CAD app?

Re: IGES export
Nurbs from TS seem not good to export to Solidwork. The object are surfaces, not closed volumes. You can't do anything to resolve this problem. It is a limitation of TS. I work for industry and know well this problem. Maybe you can use Moi3d. You can import iges from TS to moi3d then use Moi3d to finish the work and export iges. It is a good soft to save old work made with TS nurbs. the import is really good then you can also convert your nurbs to polygons with a better result than convert nurbs to polys with TS. You can consider this soft as a nurb plugin for TS.

Best of all you can get a free trial that lets you save for 30 days but prepaired to be hooked ... its a very awsome package and very addictive.marcel wrote:Nurbs from TS seem not good to export to Solidwork. Its my prefered modeler.

Re: IGES export
that is the exact problem... so in this case I dont know why there is a conversion pak and iges export feature with nurbs when its not usable :-/ I hoped that exporter can convert it to solid.
Moi sounds nice. So if I make for example a pipe (created by loft tool) and export it to moi3D, I will be able to close the gaps and make it 100% SOLID and save it as correct iges?
thank you

iges from TS is an old format (many years without update).bitkar wrote:that is the exact problem... so in this case I dont know why there is a conversion pak and iges export feature with nurbs when its not usable :-/ I hoped that exporter can convert it to solid.

not sure if you can save a TS files as correct iges with moi3d. need to try. there is no interest to begin nurbs with TS then import to moi3d. just begin new nurb model with moi3d (more powerful for that). import from TS only your old work to see if you can save them with a better construction.
iges files is a complex format and there is different iges. it depend of your soft. to work for industry, you need a soft developed for industry. All i know is import/export between TS and moi3d work well with nurbs. The conversion pack have a good reason to exist now.

Start with moi3d its very easy and very powerfull ! Its made from the same person who formerly made Rhino and is much newer in history.marcel wrote:iges from TS is an old format (many years without update).bitkar wrote:that is the exact problem... so in this case I dont know why there is a conversion pak and iges export feature with nurbs when its not usable :-/ I hoped that exporter can convert it to solid.

making a loft is just making the curves which is very easy.. alligning them in Moi3d and selecting them then you hit loft and you got it.
A solid body. if you want a tube you select the caps... delete them and select the remainig tube and hit shell tool and type in the thickness... there you got a tube...
a solid tube....
