Export to 3DS Max anyone?

Post by worldmaker »

Any tips hints, guides about exporting objects or scenes from TS 6.6 or TS 7.6 into 3DS Max 2010 Edition?

Plugins maybe for TS to export safely?

I've tried the .DAE export option and that's crashed 3DS when attempting to import.
The .3ds and .dxf outputs also failed to import to 3DS.

Stumped for the moment and I really don't want to spend a few weeks recreating all the work in 3DS.

what about obj?
You can export using LUUV from Model side / 6.6.
Or you can purchase the Workspace side OBJ exporter.

Also check clintonman's website; go to the Import/Export option. Especially check out his FBX exporter (BETA).

I save the file as a 4.3 .SCN format. Then I open the Polytrans importer, inside 3DS Max, and they come over just fine. FYI, you will loose any procedural textures.

I think the fbx plugin in 3dsmax takes care of all those formats. Maybe you can get an update for it. Can you export those formats from max and then import without a crash?

Moonman,

Thanks for the link but I think Polytrans is outside my current budget, I'm only running a trial on 3DS Max at present so I have to keep my costs to zero. :D

Clinton,

I don't think I've understood how to install the FBX plugin correctly.
I'm working with TS7.6, and followed the outline of the animated instruction highlighted on the download page, but hit a wall when trying to create a control button. Maybe I followed it incorrectly?

Stopped at this point for now. I'll try again later, but if you get this and have any thoughts then they'd be welcome.

The plugin uses ts7.61 so it wont work with 7.6

Did you try my suggestion of updating the 3dsmax plugin? The fact that max is having so much trouble with basic file formats makes me think the problem is on the max side of things. Unfortunately, I can only afford max for 30 days out of the year. So I can't test that theory myself.

I just knew you were going to say 7.61 :D I'll try that in the next few days.

As for 3DS I'll look for their plugins when I have a moment.
