ALF1
Here's another big creation for my animation, it's "ALF1" the Aerial Landing Field.
@Marcel
Said you were close when you guessed that I would make a landing field on the Ka-17.

Re: ALF1
Hmn... well since it's not really such a big thing, I suppose I can tell.
It is going to be an animation where the Gladiators take of from ALF1 and attack the Flying Tanks. I'm making it as a learning experience since I'm not entirely sure how to make everything and it will be fun to find out.

Current status of ALF1, nearly finished, that means I can almost start animating.

Re: ALF1
ALF1 Finished
Actually "ALF" was an idea I got when I was browsing the web for other pictures of the Ka-17 Flying Tank, on one website I found this old page from a 1930's science magazine which had an airship quite similar to this one. It was supposed to be solar-driven and have a hangar bay and air field where planes could land and refuel. I'm not sure if anyone actually build this thing for real but it was a nice idea to go by.
I'm therefore very happy with the result even though the shape is as ugly as a dead baboon on a very warm summer day.

If you don't like it that I post images from another source, please say so, it's my mistake then and I will remove it at once

Re: ALF1
what do you mean "another source"?
like the idea, wasn't there some real prototypes like these built? I know they had plans hanging from hooks along the bottom sides on real airships but don't know if they had an actual landing strip built in... nice

I meant that I didn't upload this to the 3d United Artists Forum but that I used Photobucket instead, I did that because then I can upload larger images.theuns wrote:what do you mean "another source"?
Also, I don't think this kind of design was ever built for real, however I do remember a scene in Indiana Jones, the Last Crusader where they escape using an aircraft hanging from under an airship

Re: ALF1
don't worry about the images being from another source, that doesn't matter at all...
Indiana Jones, that's probably where I saw it as well... would be awesome if they did build something like that, but it would probably have to be at the bottom of it for balancing reasons, like the flight pods on the Battlestar Galactica!

Re: ALF1
Yeah, I love BSG. I've thought about redoing my Viper MK 4 I built when I just started 3d modeling, I'm sure I could make something much better out of it now.

Re: ALF1
Sure, the home page is http://www.battlestarhelios.com" and the actual story bits is run through a yahoo mail group... it is basically a group of writers who each make up a character that is part of the Battlestar Helios crew and they write for their character and "tag" (prompt) other playing characters to interact with, like a dialogue... so the story unfolds as a collaborative effort between several writers... lots of fun
I've even started some 3D models for the story group but haven't finished then yet... at the moment, the Cylons have invaded the star system that he surviving colonials had colonized for a decade now and the Battlestars are on the run again
Anyways, check it out for yourself...
