First: Hello everyone.
2nd: Im a returning registered TS user who has been on "leave" for about 2 yrs. (leave = busy and sidetracked). I used to be on the TSML for a number of years, (my leave eventually began because of the volume of TSML digest emails I'd get, just couldnt keep up and my busy schedule kept me from reading about 60% of it, mail box was always getting full so I opted out. Mistake!!!) most here won't know me, a few of the old TSML'ers may but thats not important, what is important is the old bad news that is of course new bad news to me, and that is the takeover of TS by Microsoft and the ending of TS.
WOW!!! I am saddened to hear this and I mean really SADDENED as I know all of you are as well. This sucks a big one and is is almost unacceptable. I was wondering, not that it'd probably do any good, but has there been say an open letter or petition to MS to bring TS back? Please don't take me wrong because I love Roman as much as you all do but I can't believe he would have allowed this merger. Now I know I dislike Microsoft!!!! I can't stay on this subject but this just seems like some bad dream or something, I'm have a hard time believing what I'm reading, I'm serious, this is just unacceptable.
Anyway, I thought I should jump on the band-wagon and download the free 7.6 but i see things have changed (I always purchased "everyother" version of TS) so understand my current registered version is 5.1 sp2 (which I have always been EXTREMELY happy with), however I've noticed what seems to be several versions of 7.6, what is it?...one with the workspace only and one with legacy something-or-another? I've downloaded a few but have gotten confused wether or not these are actually FULL versions. Is there an absolute full version just like we've always purchased from Caligari? Anyone wishing or have the time to explain in detail would be appreciated even more.
Again hello everyone.
also thanks in advance
Kind regards
Rob E.

Re: Which TS7.6 is absolute FULL version/hi from returning user
Welcome.
since the version 7, truespace have 2 side named workspace and model side. The model side is the old TS 6.6 that you know. the workspace is the new TS 7 with new code. Both side can be used together with a particular function named bridge. TS 7 is a hybrid soft. the model side is here to assume the compatibility of old scene with the new architecture of the workspace.
There is 2 problems:
-Microsoft stopped truespace before the workspace is finsihed. It is a good soft with a better realtime viewer but it lack many function (tools, render engine,...). Also it have new interesting function. It depend of what you need.
-the license of Lightwork, the render engine of the model side is dead, so microsoft stop the download of TS 7 with this side (they don't want to pay for a free soft).
It is why you have 3 version of TS 7:
TS 7.6 (workspace and model side)
TS 7.61 (the last update with both sides but it is beta)
TS 7.61 STD (the standalone version with only the workspace)
Since a few month, the only downloadable and official version is the 7.61 STD. If you need the model side (TS 6.6 + hdri, a good function for Lightwork), you need to search on internet where to find it. We can't post link here because it is not legal. but after 5 milions download, i think the version with model side is every where on internet now.
Note: if you want to use only the model side, the best is TS 7.6 (the 7.61 beta is less good for this side) . If you want to learn the workspace, the STD version is exactly the same without the model side.
i hope that help you to follow this bad story.

Re: Which TS7.6 is absolute FULL version/hi from returning user
The current version of 7.61B Standard is the only one you can get from MS/Cali.
This version is the new workspace side only with DirectX being the only render option available. VRay was pulled without any warning so the only licensees were the early adopters like Prodigy.
Jack Edwards, Clintonman, Froo, Trueblue and others have developed a number of plugins of great merit. You will find these either on the old TS forums, here on this board or on other hosts linked from here.
Jack Edwards led the charge on developing an exporter for the Yafaray render engine.
Simon Windmill released Dribble to the community. I don't know that this is a lot of help right now as the version of 3delight that Dribble supports does not seem to be available any more and I am unaware of anyone picking up the torch to make the mods necessary to bring it in line with the new version.
If you want to get a hold of 7.6 native the only way I think you can get it is to acquire a cover disc from a back issue of 3d World.
There is still some life left in the "old girl", but not much. I will keep TS in my toolkit because I know it and can get some productive things done but I am adding a lot of other tools, including Blender, to get on with other things.
HTH as TomG would say....

Re: Which TS7.6 is absolute FULL version/hi from returning user
Thanks Marcel and V3rd3 for both of your very helpful replies.
I know all of this has probably been beat to death by now and I want everyone to know that I did pre-read some earlier posts concerning versions but I was still lost all the same. Marcel you cleared this up wonderfully, now I understand.
Looks like the version I would want is 7.6 and possibly a try of 7.61 beta if it would stay stable. I don't think the std would do me any good. I want to resume my regular ts5.1 sp2 work but with 7.6 (since its free, why not) but want the most comparible version that is FULL. (In-other-words, I don't want to lose 5.1 options but gain. If I'd lose anything from 5.1 then I'd just keep using my 5.1) if that makes any sense.
Marcel: -One question: how come the beta is not so good for the model side? What do u mean? Also the links actually are on this message board to the different versions other than std, thats how I was able to d/l them. I will not mention who has displayed them because it was very helpful and also out of respect for that poster. Just in passing.
V3rd3:
Thank you very much for the info on 3D World magazine including 7.6 on the cd, maybe I'll look for it some time if I can't find 7.6, but I think I have found it and already d/l it about an hr ago. Thanks also for your other helpful info on plug-ins and etc.
kind regards
Rob E.

If you use the model side and save your scene as a .scn file, the 7.61 have no benefit for you for 2 reasons:
-there is no update for this side since the first version of TS 7 (remember it is the 6.6 version. Update is for the workspace only).
- The 7.61 have some problem to save a .scn file. Some setting of the hdri are not saved. And some setting of the interface return to their default value when you open TS.
You have not this problem with TS 7.6
note: TS scene from TS 7.61 can't be opened with TS 7.6 (if you work with the bridge on). It is why the 7.6 version keep the best version for the model side.

Marcel:
