Plotted circles.

Post by Galane »

I found this interesting circular graph in a HPGL plot file. Converted the plot file to DXF with some open source program, brought it into tS and chopped off everything that wasn't the graph.

DXF is about the most useless format for tS. One sided polygons and decomposing it makes every face a separate object. The converter made the DXF .05 unit tall so I increased that to .5 then deleted the faces making up a numeral 1 and an arrow from the middle of the graph then scaled it to 4x4 just to make things simpler.

Some eyeball work and a bit of math found that the difference between the full circles is .6666666(infinity) I rounded that off to .666

The arcs, which I have here as full circles, are .8, 2, 4, 8, 20 units.

In the zip is a scene file with all the circles .5 high, and an object with the circles stepped in height as shown in the screen grab. The POS DXF is in the scene too, had to do the screen grab to show the original due to it being all one sided with bad geometry from crossed edges. Perhaps a better HPGL/1 to DXF converter would've done a better job.

I can see the stepped circles with some detail added to turn it into a terraced garden, or alter the heights to make it a weird castle or who knows what.

Have fun with it. It's something weird/cool that came out on my old plotter and I just had to find a way to get it into trueSpace. :)

Circle Garden Terraces.

Post by Galane »

After some fun with lots of copying and boolean intersection and join...

I present the Circle Garden Terraces. No textures or plants or anything on it, just colors so you can see what bits would be concrete and where the grass and other plants would go. Note the two different paths to the top and the odd feature of how the grass patches up the middle appear to get bigger as the circles get smaller.

The small steps are 0.125 meter, a hair under 5 inches. The largest circles are 20 meters diameter. Anyone got a 20x40 meter chunk of empty space they want a garden feature plonked into? ;)

I'd build this, if some millionaire or company had the space and the money. ;)

Interesting. This could be many things. I thought of a vast city-state for a highly structured society where a person of higher status has access to higher areas.
