This sites domain was in the grimy clutches
of godaddy.com for the last two days.. At least in The USA..

I thought this site might be gone forever..

That is VERY FUNNY and an error that cost me $45!!!

We now own the Domain Name "United3DArtists.com" from GoDaddy
We now own the Domain Name "United3DArtist.com from HostGator

I'll work with Prodigy on getting them both to work. The Hosting here was never a problem because we are good until 2014.

i was testing how important is U3dA for you guys, and as usual, we don't know how much we love something until godaddy shows you that is near to be deleted hahahaha.. Ok, understand that the joke sounds good in spanish..

AFAIK... Splinters is busily converting the buddyworld books to iTunes ready content and going through the process to get the 25k pounds sterling to launch his business.

I believe Marcel is taking a break to work on other things following the completion of B.O.T. I have no doubt doing a movie on your own is rewarding but exhausting.

I think DD is busy working on some plugin stuff so he might be more easily found at truespaceplugins.com

I have had to slow down because I have somehow torn the rotator cuff in my left shoulder.... I think it was the last time I had ex.

I would try to be funnier because painkillers can help that along but typing with one hand is tiring....

When I heal up I will be taking another shot at the pet project I uploaded the concept image for.

I think Prodigy should arrange for a few people, admins/mods I guess, to know the locations of U3DA's resources (domain name(s), bandwidth/storage host, etc.), any passwords needed, and the basics of how to renew or change these services. I don't know how many do know these things but there should be more than one.

Another issue, admins should arrange for backups of U3DA to be made periodically. A lot of people have invested time and effort in their posts here and backups would provide a way to recover in case of disaster. I mean backups that are downloaded from the host machines so if the site is deleted/damaged then it can still be restored.

In essence, more than one person should know passwords etc. and back it up so the site can survive trouble.

You bring up some interesting points Finis. I am not sure what the best way would be to back-up this site.
Maybe Prodigy knows. Can it be done with HostGator?
As far as password sharing goes. I don't think I want anyone to have access to my Credit Card information however
if I should get hit by a tree, the end of the world for "United3DArtists.com would be 2014. No one else shares my account.
That is a concern of mine (the tree too...)
This site is connected to my personal account so you all should figure out how to relieve me from that responsibility in 2014.
I'll contribute a huge portion of the financing if needed but I'm not keen on having all this responsibility alone. So when the three years are up
my plan is to have someone or a group take over. I'll always be there to help with whatever is needed.

I plan on having both Domain Names sharing this site so if one should be down the other should work. So we are good to go for three years.

I'm glad this site was missed while it was down for a couple days. It has worth to some of you and that is rewarding.

Didn't think about the credit card security issue when thinking about passwords. I think that my host (Midphase) has separate logins for financial stuff and for cpanel (a control panel for doing hosting stuff like backups). It's been a while since I logged in to that so I'm not sure. Still eventually in a disaster someone would have to have access to the account where the CC info. is. Then there is the domain name owner's account with a registrar. CC info. there too.

Give your wife the info. That way in case of tree disasters she can arrange for someone to take the helm.

Most hosts (like Hostgator) have some kind of backup system available. They make their own backups (which might serve in a disaster) but I mean one you can do yourself and download for an off-host backup. Backups are on cpanel on my sites' host but I also recently had trouble extracting one of the archives it made. Test to be sure everything is working if you get backups going.

You could ask about multiple people being in charge of stuff so that each has his own private credit card access. Then several people could have all powers to manage U3DA without CC issues. Unlikely such multi-manager accounts are available on these cheap hosting deals.

Well, it sounds like the hosting and web space are paid for, up til May 21 2014.

to be seen whether there will be value in retaining the site beyond that date.
I certainly hope so! Because after all, it isn't just for trueSpace.

So, yes, we need to discuss how to handle that transaction, by email would
probably be best. I have not yet gone through this process so am not sure
of the steps involved.

Realistically the issue is being able to transfer the domain name and hosting to another party and there is a documentation requirement for that as well as access to the hosting control account.

I am going through hell and hand grenades transferring a godaddy domain to someone else. It is a protected domain using domainsbyproxy... tons of crap trying to get it done.

U3DA does not have any corporate stuff to take care of so the process should be a lot easier.

The initiation of a domain transfer will have to be started from Steinie's account for either ISP (its just a menu option to start a transfer) so someone close will have to have the instructions on how to transfer the domain and the contacts among us who would set up to receive.

As long as we don't incorporate we should be able to follow the path of least resistance.

anyway in case of some end of world... our backup place will be the IRC truespace channel on galaxynet, ok? :) There we can regroup and make further steps. We should have some plan B in case this forum will die in any reason.

Just spotted this thread. Not been here in a long time, but remember TS fondly and still used it until last year.
Buddyworld only live on in eBook format and I moved on to Solidworks for industrial work. Im not an educational consultant providing training in a range of 3D CAD software.
